I had a really great time playing clan matches on RA3. I miss that very much.
The Q4 videos looked very Q3 to me. I am not a Q3 hater, so they don't look bad to me, but I'm not a real big fan of all the jump pads and stuff

q4 Looked q3 like to me, which is not good!Maybe someone should make q4 1/2 and use the q2 physics!Just use the cool new graphics.

Quake III was a fun game, but the gameplay seemed too simplified to me. Give me long hallways, stairs, ladders, elevators any day over jump pads. Jump pads sometimes make maps smaller than they should be. Just look at the level being shown in the Quake 4 videos. Instead of having different paths to take to get to the second floor, you have *jump pads!* that take you straight there just like that.
I can't imagine how that is more fun than the way most of Quake II's levels are designed. I love big maps, but Quake III's small maps were a huge disappointment to me. And don't even get me started on UT2K3/4's unimaginative small maps.
I don't know if it's just me...But Quake 4's world should resemble Quake II's world a little bit better. Stroggos looks completely different to me, which is not something I like too much. Thought Quake 4 would have more of a unique art design than this.
But I'm hoping for a big surprise out of this. Right now I'm disappointed with the guns, map, characters, etc. I'm going into Quake 4's multiplayer with low expectations, but it's already a given that the single player is going to be great. No way that can be ruined.
Quake II seems like an intimidating game to most new players. The multiplayer is not forgiving at all to most new players. Quake III and especially the new Unreal Tournament games are fast enough where it doesn't really matter what you do.
I'm only being tough on Quake 4 because I really hope it succeeds and is not a copy of UT2K3/4 in any way. Those should be the last FPS games that Quake 4 tries to mimic. The Quake series has always been in a league of its own, and I want it to stay that way. And please don't let the characters say different things after they frag each other!
At least I will always have the FPS perfection that is known as Quake II.

Seems like they try to compensate the lack of movement physics with jumppads and Teleporters (q3,q4).
The most played map of quake II hasn't any of those. Quake 2 looks natural, not a futuristic cartoonish silly-sounding game where you can play as a Raptor or whatever stupid model they invented.
They just totally changed the basics.
The only superior point are the textures (architecture, fog, etc..).

But if there is some tdm going on I might give a try. Choose the least of the worse I guess.

Well I got to play it at Qcon and my son also played it for an hour or so. It appeared and felt just like Q3 with better graphics. Still no strafe jump. Still holding out for the single player setup to see how it comes out. Paid for getting it as soon as it becomes available and got a Q4 T-Shirt to boot (might be all I get lol)

Thanks for the article. But reading that about how it's so much like Quake III is just disappointing to me. The person even said it felt like a combination of Quake III/DOOM 3/Quake...Completely left out Quake II...
I'm pretty sure that Quake 4 is going to be a single player only game for me. I might play a few matches here and there on Xbox Live, but most likely not more than that unless it's really fun to play.

I'm always amazed when I read things like the above regarding the latest Quake to come down the pike. You would think that Activision/ID, etc., would actually query Quake aficianados to see what they really want in the next game. Obviously, that didn't happen with Doom, and now it appears it's not going to happen with Quake4.
It's just plain dumb.
