Last night I had a dream that was a lot like dawn of the dead, or any other zombiE movie.  We had all closed ourselves into a small room, but of course I had the keys to lock the door, and was fumbling around with them.  I wasn't able to lock the damn door in time, and the ZOMBIES! all came rushing in.

It was then I awoke, to a really strange sound.  It sounded like a cuckoo clock.  I got out of my bed and went into to the kitchen to see that it was indeed the clock on the wall ticking away.  The weird thing is that that clock had been stopped probably 6mo ago, and for some strange reason it started back up again on its own. Was I sleepwalking? I dunno. Kinda freaky tho.

:uhoh: that dream sounds creepy  :purpleshock:
I don't have nightmare-ish dreams like that. (thankfully)

But I have dreams where I'm in like a Q2-ish type dream, or war.  And I'm usually a fucking ninja  ;)  haha. So its kinda fun.

Our brains do it to exercise pathways between brain cells. The dreams we have focus on our thoughts and emotions.

Not sure why we dream, but as a kid had a reocurring one that usualy came about when sick. I would fall endlessly down a large hole, face up. I always woke up under my bed, laying on my back (my bed was one of those that set about 2ft off the floor). I've rarely had that dream as an adult, but do ocasionaly have one where I fly. I take off sorta like an airplane, not a chopper, in a grassy field. It takes several tries to get off the ground. When I finaly do, I always just barely clear the highlines. Once the highlines are cleared, I just cruise around above the tree tops.

I was real bad about sleep walking/talking as a kid, but not so much as an adult. Strange stuff.

I think with sleep, there are periods where you are conscious and periods where you're not conscious.  Sometimes I've slept a whole night, but it actually felt short, and periods where I sleep, and it feels so long.  I'm not too sure about why there are periods of unconsciousness, but I think the purpose of conscious sleep is similar to the purpose of general consciousness, mainly I think it's to go through past memories and events and find interesting things, try to work out certain problems, and make plans based on that work.

Very interesting :)

I agree that dreams have alot of involvement with the unconscious state of mind, as well as some dreams seem to have alot to do with an "overload" of the brain's thought patterns at times.

I know that with me, I dream alot about things that I fear... such as worries or concerns (the 'what-if's" for better phrasing), or fear of losing someone close to me.
Like, when my husband lived in England before we were married, I always had the worry of the plane crashing when he came to visit. As a result, nevertheless I seemed to always dream about plane crashes. I think that embedded fear would manifest itself in my dreams.

Other than that, I never have really had dreams about things that have actually happened in my life.

I just take it as a sign that I am worrying way too much about different things in my life that more than likely will never come to pass (at least they haven't thusfar!).

I believe all our thoughts, impulses, and decisions are from automatic processes.  In other words, there is no free will, and there is no such thing as "conscious decisions" the way the idea is popularized.  Like Matthew Good Band would say, everything is automatic.

I rarely have dreams I remember. Sometimes I have a dilemma and I dream about it that night. I am comforted when that happens because I believe that on a sub-conscious level, the problem is being dealt with. In high school, I remember getting to my most dreaded word problems on a math test. I would get stuck, and be holding my head up with one hand, reading the problem over and over, trying to get something to "click." Next thing I'd know, I'd fall asleep, not for long...maybe 120 secs tops....wake up...and all of the sudden know how to do the equation. I later used this technique when I was having trouble getting my audit to balance working 3rd at a hotel. Now, in my 30's, I've deduced that when I'm stressed about something, my body almost has a narcoleptic reaction and insists on sleeping as soon as possible.

We should do a similar thread with a poll. I'd be curious to see how many out there dream in color or black n' white.

My dreams tend to be mostly nightmares and solving puzzles like going through very huge mazes.  Not really surprising since I have known anxiety problems while not dreaming.  I can't say I've ever had dreams in black and white though.  Sometimes my mind puts together some funny situations, like I once had a dream I was drinking and chatting with my dad on ztn2dm3. :)

Unfortunately I have been diagnosed with sleep apnea and rarely dream because I have trouble getting into REM sleep which is the deepest, most rejouvinating sleep where dreams occur.
