Ping is the speed of your connection. It has nothing to do with the "quality" of your connection.

I sometimes play in my shop over my wireless connection. It's streached to the MAX and has to go outside, then into a metal building.
I have a GREAT ping from there, but the quality of the connection sucks and netgragh has a steady flow of red spikes.
