I know I've said it before, but who the hell actually plays fusion on a regular basis in the first place?
I fail to see how changing the item placement of a powerup on a map that no one really plays very often, is so bad.

The one guy out of 20+ players who does have the bfg and quad routes memorized, should probably be good enough to spank us with any configuration of the items.

While I'm asking questions, who wants to vote on making Elysium glow yellow for the whole of the tournament?

.. you see what I was trying to get at.. in a round-about fashion.

We might as well call this the quadwhore500.
it doesn't matter where you are in the map, you won't win without bogarting the only offensive powerup,
no matter how good you are, or how many extra weapons are scattered around.

with this many people in one map, there will definitely not be enough armor and megahealths to offset the amazing advantage that the quad gives one player. (anyone who says otherwise has never used a ssg or chaingun) It would be a lot different if this was a 1v1, since you wouldn't be competing with 20 other people for the many armor and health items that are placed around the map to balance it against the quad. unfortunately its not a 1v1.

I find it really annoying when I run around for 2 minutes and still cannot pickup enough gear to survive a single hit from a quadder with a SSG.

I'd rather not have to camp the damn quad to get a fair shake.

Yeah, I really don't mind the quad being in the 500, I even voted for it to be there. I'm going to camp for it just like everyone else is...

I do agree that moving the quad would be interesting. I think it's a good idea. So this guy spent his free time 'training' map routes... heh... to bad for him? To me the TS500 should be more about your skill as a quake2 player not your X's and O's. Things should be moved around on the map so people don't have it memorized right away. That way they can really show some player talent, not map knowledge.

I was always for somebody making a brand new map for this thing... a map nobody ever played before.  ::)

As far as I could tell, spectating on vanilla, people did appear to be having fun with the waterclimb to get the quad.

If Elysium has decided he's not going to play at all now, regardless of the quad, I guess we can leave it in the new location, if there are no further objections . . .

It was a good idea at least, it put the quadder at a disadvantage for a sec either way, when/if they got cornered in the pipe.
I always find it a bit cool that no matter how well you think you know a map, someone can always find a new way to move through it.
thx for the effort, even if we don't use the alternate placement. It really shows how dedicated you are to all of us having fun, when you're willing to try editting the maps down to specific item placements.

I don't like quad in FFA's either.  It kicks ass in teamplay though.


dm8 is the classic q2 ffa map, but it's already been used.  This is probably the first time in Q2 history that a competition like this has been held, so it's no surprise that there aren't a lot of maps specifically designed for it.

I personally don't like fusion and I don't believe it's well suited for this event. I don't understand why you want to butcher the map when you could just choose another, better one.

I find it peculiar that you would ascribe motives or intent to me by saying that I'd want to butcher the map.  Especially after I've stated that my hope is to increase playability and fun on the map for a large player count.  Are you calling me a liar? :D  Or are you just projecting some sort of "any change is bad change" viewpoint onto my actions?

I'm not asking for you to make decisions based only on my feedback, I just stated that this isn't something I'd want to participate in.

Here's what I'm trying to find out (and keep asking you.)  Is it just the quad?  Or do you feel that not a single spawn change on any map is warranted?  What about fixing a wall-facing spawn?  Not even that???

If your answer is that you would rather throw a whole map away (i.e. "just choose another, better one") rather than even attempt to address problems that might actually be fixable by augmenting the item spawns, then let me be the first to suggest that your notion of, "trying to keep the game as original as possible", seems overly rigid.  What's the point of trying to keep a map "original", if what you really mean is the map should be thrown out because it's not viable in its original form???????????????????????????????????????

Anyway, I'm trying to understand more clearly the nature of your objection(s).  Like I said, I fail to see what's so great about keeping a map "original" if "original" is synonymous with not "well suited for this event".

I have no doubt a number of people voted for fusion because it looked cool.  So, yes, we could say, sorry, you voted for a cool looking map but we consider it unsuitable to this event so we're throwing it out.  But why not at least try to say, hey, it's a cool looking map, and it might be fun for this event with some more weaps/ammo???

If "must be kept original at all costs" means "must throw out map because unsuitable" then I really fail to see the point of adhering to a rigid doctrine like that.

Now, if your argument is, the .BSP map geometry sucks, there's no way tweaking item spawns could improve it even a little bit; then I would be very interested to know if that's how you really feel.  Because in that case you're fiercely lobbying to keep something Original that you think sucks in the first place.  Who cares if its Original if you think it sucks?

Etc. etc. . . . Anyway, I'm not trying to put words in your mouth.  I *am* trying to understand the nature of your objections to item spawn tweaks.  If you could help me understand, I'd appreciate it . . .

I can't even make it and i'd be happy just to be able to participate, and don't/would'nt even care about the map/item placement!
Why is it such a problem that people are trying to improve shoddy parts of maps.. Sure it takes away the 'default'ness of it, but why play default if quite frankly; it's crap? Just my two pence. :)

Oh well.. as the saying goes: "You can't please everyone"..
