Some brushes made for older (or newer) versions of Photoshop may not work with your version! This may be the case. What sort of error message does it give you when you try to load the brushes in PS?

Tell me the exact folder (in this format - My Computer>Program Files>Porn Seeker>Goat Pr0N) that you are putting the brushes into. Also - tell me what brush(es) you downloaded.

I know some brushes work, my friend matt sent me a massive bundle of them (dark angel) and they're fine.
My Computer\C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CS2\Presets\Brushes
Brushes I downloaded:

I got the x-celsior pack, the Cky pack, and some other one I can't remember.

I'm almost positive the reason they aren't working is because they are for another version of Photoshop. I don't think your version is backwards compatible with brushes for earlier PS versions. So you are SOL in that regard. However, there are about a billion different brushes out there - so keep trying until a few work. I know myself a bunch of brushes didn't work for me because they were for CS - I had the reverse problem, hehe.

Was fiddling around trying to make a Spawn signature - and it seemed more up DeathStalker's alley. Feel free to use em, trash em, save em, whatever. I won't be offended either way. Two flavors for ya...

Figured I'd post another little tutorial for those of you who want a cool sig but are lazy (like me! lol)
An easy method...
1) Find a picture you like.
2) Select Rectangular Marquee Tool. Make sure Fixed Size is selected. Make the size whatever you want your sig to be (340x150 - whatever)
3) Click on the picture and drag the rectangle over whatever you want your sig to be.
4) Copy this - open a new file with the same measurements as your rectangle - and paste.
5) Now just add a few finishing touches. (For example, duplicate the layer, do a Gaussian blur, change the duplicate layer to Overlay, and then change the Opacity until it looks snazzy. Do the same with another layer, except do Lighten instead of Overlay)
6) Add some text - maybe some brushes here and there.
7) Add a border. You're done.
A few examples...
Neat, huh? Not much work - snazzy sig - sounds like a plan! Try it out!
