I was unable to post this in the shoutbox it keeps saying "database error". But why is mymap disabled on DM? :help:

Whoops. The OS upgrade last weekend seems to have broken something. :raincloud:


But why is mymap disabled on DM? :help:

It had been requested awhile back that if custom maps are to appear on the DM server, they should occur between unbroken runs of dm1-8.

Some new code was needed to make that work, but finally got around to writing it, so figured we'd give it a try.

Right now it's just playing 1 random map in between each dm1-8 cycle.

I would like to make it so 'mymap' can override that random map with something specific (and possibly extend the chain of custom maps to 2 instead of 1.)

But anyway, 'mymap' is disabled right now because more custom code is needed to get it working again while preserving the unbroken dm1-8 cycle.

OK, the new code is written.

The dm1-dm8 maps should still play uninterrupted.

But 'mymap' can slot in maps between the dm1-dm8 rotation. (2 slots max, for now.)

Let's see how that goes.

how 'bout fixed1 and the broken series.

These are indeed maps I've wanted to add. The concern is that WallFly is not smart enough to skip them if there are more than, say, 8 players on the server. These maps seem way too small for the 16 player count that is often on DM.

(Maybe it's time to add that missing smarts to WallFly.)

It's not ideal for 1v1 situations, but that's what the DM server is supposed to cater to. Also, there are 7 other maps besides DM4 (actually 8 for the automatic mymap map between dm8 and dm1). I think there are more positives than negatives.

It happens to better players too. I know I've been in first, or second place, only to die and spawn right next to the other leading player multiple times in a row, and having to dodge rockets in a narrow corridor without any weapons myself (other than blaster).

It's not the best for 1v1 situation

I saw a clearly-new player earlier, and it spawned him like 3 or 4 times in a row right next to a better player. Instant death each time they spawned. I imagine that can be discouraging and frustrating, particularly when someone is trying to get a handle on the game. Spawn farthest would avoid this.

Might be interesting to code a hybrid spawn function that doesn't focus on "farthest" so much as avoiding the few most congested spawn points?
