Insurance doesn't cover riots and acts of civil unrest.

I did a quick google search because I was curious if this was true or not. I found this article but didn't read it:

"Insurers say riot damage is covered under most insurance policies for businesses"

https://www.cnbc.com/2020/06/03/insurers-say-looting-is-covered-under-most-insurance-policies-for-businesses.html

Maybe some of these people that are so distraught over the riots damaging their businesses didn't have insurance? I'm not sure if it's required.

Maybe Snopes could fact check that for you. Because NO, they don't, not unless it's specified in the policy, and most of these independent businesses can't afford to carry that type of coverage. They typically are covered for theft, fire, and flooding/natural disasters. Rioting and civil unrest aren't defined in the policy, and thus aren't covered. The ones that ARE covered for it can expect their insurance premiums to skyrocket afterwards when the insurance company re-evaluates the "risk" and attempts to recoup their losses. Property values will plummet, insurance costs will skyrocket. If they were treading water before or didn't have a large enough margin of profit, the increased insurance premiums will push them over the line into bankruptcy (or a steady slow bleeding out process that ends there within a year).

Walmart and Best Buy and stores with large footprints and large volume sales can afford these more expensive all-risk policies. Everyone else, it either isn't covered, or it's only partially covered up to a certain dollar amount (which wouldn't begin to approach covering total loss). (*see quadz's post in the other thread)

This is why the whole situation is so fucking frustrating to watch. These god damned idiots are raising hell about corrupt mega-corporation capitalism, and by destroying small businesses in an era when small businesses are already dropping like flies, it only removes them from the economic battlefield and HELPS big companies like Walmart to naturally gobble up more market share. If westboro baptist made signs about it, they'd say:

FAGS small businesses
DIE
GOD walmart
LAUGHGS!

And then for once, they'd be right.

My mom worked in insurance for a number of years and loves to remind me of what an elite expert she is at it while sticking up for insurance companies any time I bitch about insurance companies and their shady ways.  ::) In fact actor Walton Goggins dad worked with her, which is how I got to know him as a kid just before he got into acting.

Aside from the bullshit pro-insurance propaganda my fuckin' mom might say... :ohreally: ...the object of the game when you're an insurance company is to collect money and pay out as little as possible. There are LAWS in this country, so they can't just deny any claim they want to, they have binding legal contracts with these policies they make for people. But simply covering something is only one part of it. There's nothing in that policy prohibiting the insurance provider from raising rates if they determine that the level of risk has changed. And there's almost nothing prohibiting them from CANCELLING a policy after a claim either, which is what many of the auto insurance companies with more comprehensive coverage will do following an accident or a DUI on their report. Found that out personally. I was covered under my parents auto policy for several years. I had gotten a couple of DUI's and on the second one, they did the REALLY STUPID FUCKING THING and voluntarily reported it to them. So they ran my info and found out they were telling the truth... and they cancelled ALL OF US, them too, they wouldn't write them AT ALL anymore, even if I moved the fuck out and got my own insurance, even if they signed an exclusion saying they were free from any liability I might cause, lol. Their wonderful terrific insurance company that they had been paying for 25 or more fucking years with NO claims, dropped them like a turd in a toilet.

More horror stories? Sure! My homeowners policy with American Family. I took over the house from my folks when they moved and continued the policy with no changes. They'd been with these people since their first house around the time I was born. They never once filed a claim. One year, a hurricane came up the coast and spun off bad storms far enough away to effect me. It tore a few shingles out from 2 or 3 spots on my roof. MOST people around here got FREE roof replacements a few years ago because of the shingles used on most houses getting recalled as defective and some class action lawsuit, I dunno, but wouldn't you know it, MY house didn't have the exact same shingles. They were just as shitty, same brand I think, but not the exact type. ::) So I get someone out to estimate the cost of repairs. My insurance says they won't cover the roof anymore if I merely repair it, I MUST replace it to continue coverage. So i say fine, how much will give me towards replacing the whole roof? Nothing. ..................uh..............WHUT? So they pretty much forced me into a situation to where I had to cough up $20,000 I really didn't have. And then they actually expected me to KEEP ON paying them to NOT cover me when I need fucking repairs to something that their fucking policy covers. They must be on fucking drugs!

Needless to say, I changed companies soon afterwards. :ohreally:

I wish they could somehow understand that

Corruption
Corporatism
"Crony-Capitalism"

ARE NOT Capitalism. Corporate welfare is not Capitalism. The government favoring certain corporations over others is not capitalism. These are all anti-capitalism.

Of course the government should be there to enforce basic law and order and prohibit corporations from polutting or dumping waste illegally (among other things on a short list), but the biggest "problems" with capitalism are from an overreaching government. A government that will grow even more powerful and corrupt under a Marxist economy.

Capitalism is freedom of exchange. You have the freedom to exchange your labor for money as you see fit. You never have to take any job you don't want, and you can quit at any time (minus specifics of a contract you willfully signed). You have the freedom to exchange your labor for any wage. You have the freedom to exchange goods or services for money. You have the freedom to charge whatever you want for said goods and services.

The government creates a problem, blames something else for the problem, has the press get the masses thinking their way, then offers up a "solution" to said problem. A "solution" that almost always, in one way or another, takes power away from the people and hands it directly to the government. As a small example, look at minimum wage. As the government continuously makes it more difficult and expensive to start a business (couple this with the government giving aid to certain major corporations and not others), naturally there are less businesses. With less competition comes less competitive wages and less options for the laborer. So, minimum wage "must" be implemented to address this problem the government created. Am I saying minimum wage should be eliminated? Nope. We are currently too far down the wrong path for such an extreme change. But I am saying that it never should have been implemented (which requires governmental transparency, unbiased media, and an unbiased education system, among other things). A minimum wage of $15 means it is illegal for you to accept a job that pays $14.50 an hour. It's a restriction of freedom. There MANY more reasons why minimum wage is a joke but I'll leave it at that for this example.

Competition is everything. Had the government not fucked everything up by toying with markets, making it difficult to start businesses, implementing a metric shit ton of taxes and regulations, and engaged in so much corruption, you'd essentially have a large number of businesses hellbent on satisfying consumers. Pursuit of profit isn't the boogeyman everyone makes it out to be. You MUST make the customer happy to receive that profit. The companies that yield the best ratio of quality to cost regarding the goods and services they sell will get the most customers. And they must continue to either increase the quality of said goods or services, lower the price thereof, or both, because they will soon have competitors nipping at their heels, thirsty for that market share. In a market with a healthy amount of competition, general availability would be through the roof. Things that are difficult to afford today would be much cheaper and you'd have many more options. Good paying jobs that seem difficult to find today would be within reach. I myself imagine certain industries being like gas stations. There's 4 within eyesight with prices posted out front. When you have freedom of choice, you win.

Economic Freedom rant over, lol.

The account of ONE witness dominates the headline. Two witnesses and the FBI's report of what transpired completely contradicts it in the body of the article.

 :lolsign:

They only do shit like that because it works.  Washington post is what you have coined "enemy of the people level propagaganda". They share this honorary prestige with the NY times, the Atlantic, CNN, and MSNBC(plenty of more ambitious and aspiring outlets sitting on the fringe envious of this prestige). Does huffpo count? All in someone's pocket (bezos in wash Po's case, soros, China, etc)

Hahaha wow. Nice compilation. It's sad so few people know about this phenomenon and how frequently it takes place.
