thanks for proving my point, lubuntu is just ubuntu with lxde on it by default, and mint is built off ubuntu just more polished by default with gnome2

and a lot of linux people would prefer to either build ground up systems, or get a set up close enough to what they want that they can tweak it... its rare to see an experienced linux user use settings that were there out of the box

you get people adding more repos, or compiling their own programs, changing settings in text files, totally over hauling what their DE or WM looks like, everything top to bottom, and that is why there is so many distros is people want different things... i have seen some people have entire hour long conversations about what file manager they like to use, or why they use this panel with openbox instead of this other panel

there is only a hand full of distros worth installing for some one NEW to linux, seriously you talk shit on linux and you used it for a very short period of time and basically just got frustrated with quake not working right and hopped back over to windows
