that's bandwidth though, not latency.

Do you know the definition to latency?

there's not 1000gb cable/dsl net connections eigther.  Most max out at 10mb, average is 3-6

My god...  :frustration: Over your head.

Face it... performance computer parts are wired for a reason. Your wireless stuff can't hold a candle to wired... give it up.

cords do sometimes annoy a little in different ways.

I am EX wireless user. I grew tired of the slight lag caused by the wireless mouse, having to change batteries mid-game. It was an optical mouse. I've never used a pad with it and the desk surface is kind of reflective which would often cause it to feedback and spin my player around and around. It still happens with the corded mouse, but a little less frequently. The weight of the batteries was never a problem...

The weight of a cord IS a problem. The cord hangs off the back of the desk. I have my monitor sitting up on a stack of a few books. I have to pull some excess cord up and trap it between the books and the wall to keep from having the cord catch on the edge of the desk or the myriads of other cords behind the desk. Nothing is more aggravating than trying to aim a rocket down at someones feet when they're closing in on you fast and missing because your cord keeps you from dragging the mouse back.

It's called cable management. If you're to lazy to organize your cables then it's not the mouses fault but I guess the easy way out is to get a laggy wireless mouse. I stand by Razer mice 100%... they always have a 7ft cord so cord length is never an issue.

nah there is some 'drag' caused by wired mice, and they can get caught/tangled, causing you to stop short.  I don't see how wireless mice are laggy, I've never noticed any type of lag, the reactions are just as instantaneous as wired mice.  neither is better or worse for gaming, it all depends on the persons needs.  you're going to have to show some proof of the lag differences between the two to back that up. it isn't like a wireless router that adds so much ping to your link. mice aren't known for being bandwidth hogs either. say your ping is 50ms, and your mouse is 50ms, that doesn't mean you're running like its 100ms ping. as long as your mouse 'latency' is lower than your net latency, you're all good.

nah there is some 'drag' caused by wired mice, and they can get caught/tangled, causing you to stop short.

You take a few minutes to make sure your mouse cord is completely free and won't run into any snags, it really isn't that difficult. If your mouse cord is 3 ft' and your computer is 8 ft' away then it's time to rethink your setup.

The only thing that causes "drag" with a wired mouse is the between chair and keyboard error.

I don't see how wireless mice are laggy, I've never noticed any type of lag, the reactions are just as instantaneous as wired mice.  neither is better or worse for gaming, it all depends on the persons needs.

Our developers here tend to want the wireless mice and I don't purchase them the cheap ones... When I use their expensive, kick ass wireless mouse I honestly notice a latency issue. It's just not as responsive, period. Add in the other issues that come along with these mice (low power, receiver line of sight, etc...) it just isn't worth it in the gaming world.

If you're going to drop $70 on a kick ass wireless mouse you may as well pick up a Razer and get what your paying for.

you're going to have to show some proof of the lag differences between the two to back that up. it isn't like a wireless router that adds so much ping to your link. mice aren't known for being bandwidth hogs either. say your ping is 50ms, and your mouse is 50ms, that doesn't mean you're running like its 100ms ping. as long as your mouse 'latency' is lower than your net latency, you're all good.

Proof? Search the web you lazy son of a bitch. It's common knowledge that wireless mice are less responsive, wireless anything for that matter.

Wireless mice are... less responsive, heavier, expensive, disconnect often, hassle (batteries, recharging) & down right have less performance.

Christ you're ignorant.

now jager.. be nice.  :sarcastic:

on topic tho, I was trying out a newer logitech wireless mouse yesterday, that we'd purchased for one of our sales people along with his new laptop. I actually tested it a bit in q2 to see if it was even plausible as a gaming mouse, and response-wise it wasn't bad as long as you actually have a clear line of sight between the usb pickup and the mouse itself.

I felt some of the lag you speak of until I moved the little usb thingy into the port on the front of the tower, nearest to me.
It worked reasonably well at this point but still not as reliably as my 10 dollar (wired) MS optical wheelmouse.

I ran some tests on it as well and found that it's polling rate wasn't all that impressive (it couldnt maintain the stock 125hz)

I was tempted to use a 3rd party util to boost the polling rate to see if that would make it a bit more accurate but I ended up having to pack it up to make the UPS truck since we were shipping it to the guy.

Now that I've tried out a recent and fairly decent wireless mouse, I can say with some certainty that I still wouldn't use one for gaming, but I wouldn't have much of a problem using it for work (data entry and IT work and such).

I had a 5$ wireless laser mouse before and it never had any problems.  your responsiveness might be due to lack of DPI or your driver settings on reports per second which usually aren't set to their highest by default, there are any number of reasons why your mouse feels different than theirs.  maybe their mouse speed is set higher or lower.  some people prefer a heavier mouse to steady their movements, some people prefer the opposite (if you're a woman with small hands a wireless mouse will probably feel a little heavy). if a mouse has 1600dpi, you're getting 1600 dpi. if a mouse only has 200 reports per second, you're only getting just that.

I've never heard of a wireless mouse 'disconnecting', except when you take the batteries out and put them back in you usually need to hit a button on the mouse and receiver to sync them up. would you prefer your cell phone was corded?

receiver line of sight? there is a distance, there can be possible interference, but there is no line of sight.  you can put the receiver behind a 3 inch thick steel/lead plate and it would still receive. (RF)

"Search the web you lazy son of a bitch. "  yes, you should :)

"If you're going to drop $70 on a kick ass wireless mouse you may as well pick up a Razer and get what your paying for."

razer is a brand name, while they make good mice, you can get one relatively as good for $20-30 at newegg. anyone dropping more than (or around) $50 on a mouse is a chump.
"Our developers here tend to want the wireless mice"

hmm...why is that?

Wow this is a stupid argument but the fact I'm in it with a complete moron like you plastik makes it worth wild.

I had a 5$ wireless laser mouse before and it never had any problem

That's because you're simple. You most likely also think a normal analog picture looks the same as hd picture.

your responsiveness might be due to lack of DPI or your driver settings on reports per second which usually aren't set to their highest by default, there are any number of reasons why your mouse feels different than theirs.  maybe their mouse speed is set higher or lower.

No.

None of your points have anything to do with the feeling of response time. You're an idiot. I know the difference between mouse speed and the feeling of lag. Wireless mice give off that feeling. Again... perhaps you're to simple minded to realize it.

some people prefer a heavier mouse to steady their movements, some people prefer the opposite (if you're a woman with small hands a wireless mouse will probably feel a little heavy).

Most people prefer a light mouse. Calling the mouse heavy doesn't literally mean people feel the mouse is heavy like it's hard to pick up... Idiot.

if a mouse has 1600dpi, you're getting 1600 dpi. if a mouse only has 200 reports per second, you're only getting just that.

Your point?

I've never heard of a wireless mouse 'disconnecting', except when you take the batteries out and put them back in you usually need to hit a button on the mouse and receiver to sync them up.

I've heard of plenty. Wow it's so convenient to 'sync' the two in the middle of a game. Right...

would you prefer your cell phone was corded?

You're comparing apples to oranges.

receiver line of sight? there is a distance, there can be possible interference, but there is no line of sight.  you can put the receiver behind a 3 inch thick steel/lead plate and it would still receive. (RF)

There are line of sight issues when it comes to having the mouse be as responsive as possible. I've set up plenty of wireless mice to know this.

"Search the web you lazy son of a bitch. "  yes, you should :)

So... you take a legit comment and turn it back on me? That holds no ground for if you did take the time to search you would find plenty of cases where people compare performance between wireless mice and wired mice and the results.

razer is a brand name, while they make good mice, you can get one relatively as good for $20-30 at newegg. anyone dropping more than (or around) $50 on a mouse is a chump.

Simple people like yourself are happy with their $5 mouse with the floating fish in it. That's great for you... go read your bible.

"Our developers here tend to want the wireless mice"

hmm...why is that?

Obviously their under the same illusion as you. I don't argue with people at my work... I come here to pick on dumb fucks like you.

finally quit being so angry, you might live longer :)

Nobody is angry. I think you're retarded and your reputation certainly perceives you. I get my rocks off dipping my dick in asses like yours, what can I say.

"I've heard of plenty. Wow it's so convenient to 'sync' the two in the middle of a game. Right..."

it isn't really that inconvenient, especially if you recharge your batteries regularly. it would probably take a week of heavy, nearly all-day usage to run a battery dead. I don't think regular games are that important to smash your mouse over it going dead on you mid-game.  if you're playing a tourney then you make sure your mouse is charged.  wired and wireless both have their positives and negatives, as I have been saying all along. there are backup batteries and 15 min chargers (which have more uses than just for a mouse) you'd be inconvenienced for all of 10 seconds to 15 minutes once a week or two depending on usage, most likely when you're not even using your computer. it must be the end of the world as we know it.  but hey, I feel fine :)

-
"Most people prefer a light mouse. Calling the mouse heavy doesn't literally mean people feel the mouse is heavy like it's hard to pick up... Idiot."

who are these most people?  where are the statistics? heavy means just that, heavy.  who said anything about picking up the mouse? a 'heavier' mouse can steady your movements with its weight.

-
"Your point? "

my point is the specs/settings of the wired and wireless mouse may not match, resulting in differences.

-
"That's because you're simple. You most likely also think a normal analog picture looks the same as hd picture. "

now who's talking apples and oranges?

-
"There are line of sight issues when it comes to having the mouse be as responsive as possible. I've set up plenty of wireless mice to know this."

RF doesn't require an exact 'line of sight'.  even in that case you can place the receiver right beside the screen, problem solved. I doubt the receiver being blocked is a problem at all.  it is as simple as when you spoke of 'cord management'. if you've got a 'cluttered' desk, cord management may become just as annoying.
-

"So... you take a legit comment and turn it back on me? "

yes I took a 'legit' and unnecessarily angry comment you made and turned it on you...that's exactly how it happened.  it's you against the world isn't it?
-
"That holds no ground for if you did take the time to search you would find plenty of cases where people compare performance between wireless mice and wired mice and the results."

well since you're willing to spend the time arguing your case in a furious manner, you could take the time to prove your case in a calm manner.
-

"Simple people like yourself are happy with their $5 mouse with the floating fish in it. That's great for you... go read your bible."

yes because I don't believe in what you say, I must believe in a god :)
-

"Obviously their under the same illusion as you. I don't argue with people at my work... I come here to pick on dumb fucks like you."

and exactly how was this illusion created?  you don't argue with people at your work...YET you're the one getting all of the expensive wireless mice you loath.  you probably don't argue with them because you can't look a person in the eye, face to face when they stand their ground. you're afraid of someone being right or not even caring about buying into your BS, so you come online and call people 'dumb fucks' hiding behind your keyboard, letting off frustrations of the world not being exactly how you want it to be, of people not agreeing with everything you say, of every idea you have being as insignificant as the dog shit on your lawn.

you make wireless mice seem more like a 'fad' or what someone would want only because of form and not function..but that isn't so. you know what they also probably called a fad at one point in time?  wireless phones.
-

if you wanna go into the dumb fuck zone, lets point some things out..

"makes it worth wild."

that is correctly written as 'worth while'

"your reputation certainly perceives you"

it should be 'your reputation precedes you'.

and don't give me that BS of 'oh I meant to type it like that on purpose because there is a hidden meaning'.
-

even more..

"Obviously their under the same illusion as you"

I'm surprised you spelled illusion correctly, did you have to google it? in any case, it is 'they're and not 'their'.  I find it ironic you take the trouble of capitalizing the beginning of sentences, go through the trouble of being unnecessarily angry, but don't take the trouble of using proper grammar in your entire post. who put them under this illusion anyways?  is there some wireless mouse gnome beaming wireless mouse advertisements into their heads?
-

you do realize eventually wired things will become completely wireless? who are you to tell other people that they should only like wired mice? and you can go back to all of my posts here, I haven't shown personal preference over one or the other.

Jesus christ, can you PLEASE learn how to quote properly.

it isn't really that inconvenient, especially if you recharge your batteries regularly. it would probably take a week of heavy, nearly all-day usage to run a battery dead.

You're arguments are completely moot. The point is that it's a complete inconvenience to recharge or replace batteries for a mouse. The fact they can run out on you or reduce the performance of your mouse at any given time no matter what you're doing is still a pain in the ass. Fact.

who are these most people?  where are the statistics? heavy means just that, heavy.  who said anything about picking up the mouse? a 'heavier' mouse can steady your movements with its weight.

So to prove this stupid argument you want me to go run down names and post graphs of the statistics... If you know a damn thing about gaming & gamers you would already know it to be true that MOST gamers do prefer a lighter mouse. Am I going to list their god damn names one by one? No. I don't have to because it's common knowledge. Your arguments are retarded.

my point is the specs/settings of the wired and wireless mouse may not match, resulting in differences.

Exactly my point. The fact that wireless mouse spec settings do not compare to performance wired mice. Thank you.

now who's talking apples and oranges?

This is your thing huh? To take what is already said and attempt to turn it around without some kind of respectable rebuttal?

Do you know what that idiom means? Obviously not.

it is as simple as when you spoke of 'cord management'. if you've got a 'cluttered' desk, cord management may become just as annoying.

In the same statement you said I was wrong then went ahead and agreed with me. Wow...

yes I took a 'legit' and unnecessarily angry comment you made and turned it on you...that's exactly how it happened.  it's you against the world isn't it?

Huh? You're still avoiding it...

You certainly have the wrong perception of me if you think I'm angry at the world. Learn that I just enjoy picking on people such as yourself for making stupid, ignorant comments or accusations.

well since you're willing to spend to time arguing your case in a furious manner, you could take the time to prove your case in a calm manner.

Again... you're completely avoiding the fact you're wrong and the facts that prove it.

yes because I don't believe in what you say, I must believe in a god :)

No. It's because you come off like some ignorant, bible belt, little sister touching, simple man.

and exactly how was this illusion created?  you don't argue with people at your work...YET you're the one getting all of the expensive wireless mice you loath.  you probably don't argue with them because you can't look a person in the eye, face to face when they stand their ground. you're afraid of someone being right or not even caring about buying into your BS, so you come online and call people 'dumb fucks' hiding behind your keyboard, letting off frustrations of the world not being exactly how you want it to be, of people not agreeing with everything you say, of every idea you have being as insignificant as the dog shit on your lawn.

LOL

I don't argue with them because I have to work with them. I'm not going to start some stupid ass debate with peers at my work. You're obviously one of those people who never knows when to keep their mouth shut. You'll trip all over the shit that spews out of your mouth. No matter how wrong you know you are you'll never reach for the toilet paper.

Wow look who got angry. Nice lines, is that a copy and paste of something said to you in the past? Judging by your past comments I'm willing to bet it is.

you make wireless mice seem more like a 'fad' or what someone would want only because of form and not function..but that isn't so. you know what they also probably called a fad at one point in time?  wireless phones.

What? Dude you really have to stop with these stupid comments. I think wireless mice are a fad? What the fuck? Huh?

if you wanna go into the dumb fuck zone, lets point some things out..

"makes it worth wild."

that is correctly written as 'worth while'

"your reputation certainly perceives you"

it should be 'your reputation precedes you'.

and don't give me that BS of 'oh I meant to type it like that on purpose because there is a hidden meaning'.
-

Oh christ. Let me dedicate the next two hours of pointing out all the grammatical errors in your posts. Please... Talk about a keyboard warrior. Typical nerdy forum shit. You're such a tool.

Holy shit LOL...

You actually think you're smart. Hilarious. The fact you mentioned the "did you have to google it" pretty much means you take the time do so with your posts. If it wasn't for Firefox's spell check you'd be in deep shit I guess.

Who put you under the illusion? Yourself... you have no idea what you're talking about but you still try to argue.

you do realize eventually wired things will become completely wireless? who are you to tell other people that they should only like wired mice? and you can go back to all of my posts here, I haven't shown personal preference over one or the other.

Fact is you're trying to argue that wireless mice have zero latency issues and perform just as good as wired. That's a totally ridicules statement to stand by.

Not all wired things will. You can bet on that.

"The fact they can run out on you or reduce the performance of your mouse at any given time no matter what you're doing is still a pain in the ass. Fact."

and some people think the cord is a pain in the ass.  fact.  :ubershock:

-

"Exactly my point. The fact that wireless mouse spec settings do not compare to performance wired mice. Thank you."

as long as the dpi, polling rate/report per second, etc all match up, they should be pretty much on par.  do you even know how fast RF 'physically' travels compared to wires?  the difference is negligible, especially over a few feet.
-

"In the same statement you said I was wrong then went ahead and agreed with me. Wow..."

please by all means quote this statement you think I made that contradicts itself.  8)
-

"Again... you're completely avoiding the fact you're wrong and the facts that prove it. "

how can I avoid facts when you aren't using any?  :bigshades:
-

"You certainly have the wrong perception of me if you think I'm angry at the world. Learn that I just enjoy picking on people such as yourself for making stupid, ignorant comments or accusations."

nice job admitting that you're being an asshole needlessly, and enjoying it while at the same time being angry at others.  if you wanna go back and read from the beginning, you'll realize I haven't provoked anything, the anger is all coming from one direction, you.  we'll make you the poster boy for wired mice. happy now?

this is an exact depiction of how you came into this thread..  :bomb:

-

"No. It's because you come off like some ignorant, bible belt, little sister touching, simple man. "

I don't mind wireless mice so I must believe in the bible, and touch little girls because of it..hah!  however if you have a cute little sister and she is above 18, send her this way and I'll make a woman out of her. :sex_algida:

-

"I don't argue with them because I have to work with them."

I refer you to..

"you probably don't argue with them because you can't look a person in the eye, face to face when they stand their ground. you're afraid of someone being right or not even caring about buying into your BS, so you come online and call people 'dumb fucks' hiding behind your keyboard, letting off frustrations of the world not being exactly how you want it to be, of people not agreeing with everything you say, of every idea you have being as insignificant as the dog shit on your lawn."

"Wow look who got angry. Nice lines, is that a copy and paste of something said to you in the past? Judging by your past comments I'm willing to bet it is."

no, I took extensive courses in sociology and psychology years ago :)

"Oh christ. Let me dedicate the next two hours of pointing out all the grammatical errors in your posts. Please... Talk about a keyboard warrior. Typical nerdy forum shit. You're such a tool."

irony. look it up.  you accuse people of being ignorantly religious, but say 'Oh Christ'.  typical nerdy forum shit?  coming from someone baby whining about mice on a forum?  please do dedicate the next two hours to pointing out all of the grammatical errors in my posts.  although I'm willing to bet your time will not yield the results you hope for.
