Holy fudge nuggets. I was about to defend Wixen for his contributions in q2scene and an early support for the tastycast... but ban dervish? WHY!?

He is by far one of the best contributers of mapping help on that forum!

Just for the records.
The map contest deadline was Jan. 31th. The voting deadline was Feb.21th.

Here you have what I and Laura recieved in an email Jan. 12th. almost 3 weeks before map deadline :

I guess he was not a fan but a twisted little sickf**k.

And I know for sure that at least Margaal indeed changed his maps severel times before the deadline.

For the record, this was probably ramirez who did that, as he knows how much it spites spawny to see "her?" contest maps go to the place she hated. Like I said, I doubt he was the one who uploaded the maps.

But after doing things like banning Dervish and X7, you can't say that he didn't at least deserve it.

 

And I'm still sticking to my theory that X7 uploaded the unfinished maps, because he released an override for one of those maps fixing a droptofloor error.

For the record, this was probably ramirez who did that

1. I know who uploaded the maps because I have their IP in the FTP logs.

2. The client in the screenshot is the same one that uploaded the maps, as the FTP status lines in the screenshot indicate.  (What you see pictured is what Filezilla does when uploading, not when browsing.)

3. The client in the screenshot is Eastern time (-18000 seconds from GMT), whereas Ramirez would be -28800 seconds from GMT.

That zone would seem to include Eastern canada, the Eastern united states, and the Northwestern portion of South America.

I'm not entirely sure where Argentina falls, but I will verify.

I don't understand what the issue is here no matter who uploaded the maps. You can't "steal" something that is publicly posted and there was nothing in the rules of the mapping contest that said the maps were preliminary or unfinished or not to be used on live servers until finalized, so where's the beef?

I don't know why anyone would publish an unfinished map for a contest unless there was a hard deadline to meet but if it was ok with all the mappers that they were finished maps then they were not prematurely published or used on a live server.

I sampled the text files for marics111, spiritdm7, and margaal14 and saw nothing to indicate they were preliminary maps.

If she who shall not be named published an unfinished map and wants to complain about it then she can take it up in email with the proper admins.

If there's an unfinished or preliminary map on the server or a map with bugs that doesn't belong in distribution then let the author say so and let's work together to fix the problem. I see no reason for specious accusations of "stolen" maps.

That really does appear to be the crux of it; there is no visible notice that the posted files were anything other than fair game for publishing to any server by anybody. We're usually pretty good about marking our maps as *_beta or something. Furthermore, submission to a contest is not a change of ownership - it's still your map. If anybody has a right to complain, it's maric, or margaal, or any of the other authors.

I sorted out everything and FTP'd it earlier this week.
