I am interested in your stand on Sharia Law. This is the main reason people object to Islam,the baggage that weighs it down in the sight of the West and elsewhere. We see news reports on new horrors inflicted by it and stand agape and amazed that "civilized" people are capeable of such things. Not to be shoved in the faces of the unwilling,not to be forced down the throats of children and the mentally challanged.And when these dangley bits "compell" one to do terrible things,one should expect polite society to shun you,and their Law to slap you about.Culture.Be.Damned.

Our objections to these practices are not limited to the region and especially not to the religion. Much of Asia has a long history of Honor Killings. Countries there still have 1-2 year prison sentences for people who practice it. So it's not a case of singling out Sharia law. Although it is a pretty good example of human rights violations.

I read about instances in North Korea years ago, I don't have time to find the article. Pakistan, Turkey are also big on it. I'm sure that there are instances in Thailand, Vietnam and the rest of the region. It wasn't so much the law that made the punishment so lenient, but the sympathetic judge that minimized the sentence.

North Koreah- must be a case involving some members of the military junta. Pakistan yeah. Youve missed Africa btw. Turkey maybe in some isolated region but in urban doubt it. In Vietnam and Thailand Im sure they are isolated cases (like http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,598689,00.html ) unlike in Middle East and parts of Africa.

If its regarding a sympathic judge, then its a different story (for which can and probably had happen anywhere else). A symphathetic judge is just the same as having to get away with a crime coz of having a high caliber lawyer. Not much difference, its just got more sophisticated on which money is the factor not the symphathy. Remember O.J. Simpson (not related to Homer )

The way I see it, religion does had something to do about it but then again, there are some cases wherein the culture,traditions,education, economy contributed also.

Not exactly. I would cite 2 things in this instance:
