Need I say more?  We are already spending lots of tax dollars on their welfare meals of cheeseburgers and fried chicken.

Lets spend even more money and give these sub 80 iq fatasses free healthcare.  They are going to run up a huge cost being that fat and always in the hospital.  What do all you queer liberals have to say about that?

I agree! Government healthcare is going to cost tens of billions of dollars of taxpayer money. We'll end up subsidizing illegal aliens and bums who don't have/can't afford healthcare. I say if you don't have they money to buy it, you don't get it. Nothing is free. Everything must be worked for. Basic laws of economics.

They'd probably say, "This should have been posted in the politics section.", and I'd agree.

As an Economist myself I certainly agree, however sadly that is not the American way.  If you dont have the money to buy it you just buy it on credit, which explains the -4% savings rate for the average American (Although recently Americans have exhibited positive savings rates due to fear of the recession/depression).

The liberals disagree however.  They believe just because you are born on American soil (or even not in many cases) that you are entitled to free handouts at the expense of those who are not bums and work hard, receive an education etc.

what do 'conservatives' believe we should do in regards to people who cannot work like the blind, or the mentally disabled?

do they just get to die of starvation and disease, or do we throw them from a cliff when they're babies onto a pile of tiny little skeletons?

You know perfectly well the answer to that question you gay ass liberal.  Of course blind and handicapped people who cannot work should be taken care of.    The post was directed at all the people who are perfectly able to contribute but would rather leach off the system.  But I guess you libs consider people with IQ's under 80 because they never payed attention in school to be handicapped and worthy of a free handout eh?

My understanding, is that some of the hospitals cannot turn people without insurance away, and we all end up paying the bill in our own higher insurance premiums.  And that the health insurance plan is not focused on giving free stuff to people trying to milk a system, but to just more accurately spread the cost.  That doesnt mean the rich have to pay for the poor.  Everyone has to pay in or suffer penalties.  Not having insurance will have penalties which will help cover the cost of the non insured.  No free rides.

i also dont buy the argument that A. The Gov't can't do it right and B.  It will drive private companies out of business.  If the government cannot provide a worthwhile product, then the consumer would not choose it, and would choose the private company.  i also don't buy the "Big Bureaucracy" argument, as that is exactly what anyone i know deals with now, myself included.

i have seen few Republican arguments that i can believe in, save the fear of higher taxes.  The president states that he doesn't want it to add to the deficit on a ten year program, so we will see....

And so?

There will always be people who try to cheat the system.  What's the solution?

It's a hard problem.  But I think we could at least start off with an arrangement of priorities.

For instance:

  1. First, make sure people who truly need help are getting it
  2. Look for ways to prevent lazy people from gaming the system, without compromising priority #1.

Recall Voltaire: The perfect is the enemy of the good.

That is, I reject the idea that we need a perfect solution to priority #2, before we can address priority #1.

Regards,

quadz

Liberals believe our constitution exists to have the government protect the people.

Conservatives believe our constitution exists to protect the people from the government.

what do 'conservatives' believe we should do in regards to people who cannot work like the blind, or the mentally disabled?

do they just get to die of starvation and disease, or do we throw them from a cliff when they're babies onto a pile of tiny little skeletons?

What I find funny about this Derv is that under the current 'Obamacare' heath reform bill on the table, in a warp around way of words it states people with these handicaps would be likely to receive a lesser quality of treatment than they do now or none at all depending on their state or age.

My understanding, is that some of the hospitals cannot turn people without insurance away, and we all end up paying the bill in our own higher insurance premiums.

Yes this would be illegal aka criminal immigrants using our Emergency rooms as walk in clinics for head colds. Not some, but all hospital can't turn away anyone from a ER.

the health insurance plan is not focused on giving free stuff to people trying to milk a system, but to just more accurately spread the cost.
That doesnt mean the rich have to pay for the poor.  Everyone has to pay in or suffer penalties.  Not having insurance will have penalties which will help cover the cost of the non insured.  No free rides.

Middle class America will be paying the bill. People making around 50k will be supplying 18% of their income to the health insurance reform.

It is a free ride. It's a free ride for criminal immigrants, it's a free ride for the lazy, it's a free ride for dead beat drug users. We will pay for the scum of society to receive health treatment.

If the government cannot provide a worthwhile product, then the consumer would not choose it, and would choose the private company.

This is false. In this bill they are abolishing your right to choose a private company after a set amount of years. They are removing your employers right to supply private heath care after a set amount of years.

This bill gives the government power to rewrite your private health care terms. Within the bill there are astronomical fines for failing to pay your private health care provider on time. Such as a $5,000 charges which posted upon you from the government, not your health care provider.

i have seen few Republican arguments that i can believe in, save the fear of higher taxes.  The president states that he doesn't want it to add to the deficit on a ten year program, so we will see....

These are no arguments really. They are stone cold facts being tossed around regarding what is in this bill. If you honestly believe the government should have the kind of power their looking for in this bill, then that's where the argument beings.

Further more, if you believe a god damn thing this man says then you're honestly naive. The man is a liar, he lied to our faces on television regarding his claims of what is fiction and what is fact. It's in the god damn bill, do some research.

Obama is falling folks. Mr. Hollywood isn't too popular anymore with Tax paying, employed America. Approval ratings are waaaaay down. Nobody trusts this guy! Nobody wants communism in America.

What is mine is MINE, not yours too.

Health insurance is not a born given right.

Though I have my gripes with our current system, as everyone should.

That being said, in our country it's a shame that not everyone can afford coverage. I, personally, would in a second opt for health care coverage for those whom cannot afford it if the government dropped all welfare programs. I would rather see my money help sick people than help people who aren't ... working (many or most of whom have no intention of working). However I think it's unfair that someone who takes care of their health and has preventative checkups should pay the same as someone who is slamming down mcdonalds everyday and watching TV all night. Also, a person with one child pays the same for coverage as a person with 13 kids, that's not fair. How about this one, an uninsured person pays less for the same procedure as a person with coverage, because the hospital knows insurance will pay and can make up their costs there.

Guys, i live in Canada, and yes, the free health care has its positive points. I believe that health care is as important as water, food, education, etc. If you want your people to prosper, you need to give them the basics of a civilized society to live. I believe the equation is simple: better education = better knowledge = better society. Better health = more productive society = better quality of life, etc.

The idea is, if you give the people basic needs, FREE (taxes), your people will live better, your country will be better, and so on. What do we wish for the people we love during christmas, new year, etc? Happiness and health. Health is extremely important in a person's life, it should be free.

So what to do for other issues that makes the People of the USA hesitate on free health care? Well these issues should be fixed elsewhere, poor people/crime can be fixed with education and information, illegal immigration could be fixed also with better measures of custom controls and other stuff.  Im not an expert, but the problem would not be the FREE HEALTH CARE, but to change other things that makes this basic right difficult to accept as an american.

Also, a society's phylosophy will never be 100% flawless: we all know that 2 people together will never agree on anything 100%, imagine 400 000 000 people... I personally prefer seing my government invest in health care, pay more taxes, but to know that ill be taken care of no matther what happens in my life.

All in all, if my mother would have had to pay for my health care as a child, I wouldnt make 60 000$ a year now, woudnt be in the same shoes as i am and would not contribute as much as i am contributing to society as I am today, since she  wouldnt have been able to afford paying for health insurance.... Worst is, i would probably have to live a life of crimes to survive, do stuff that would make me so dependant of money to simply save my life... Think about it: we are only looking for health, hapiness and security. If we know we need these basic things, shouldnt it be logic to invest in concrete basic human needs?

We should be able to provide better healthcare.  Costs are high, and some people don't have healthcare covered.

Is it feasible to do during these economic conditions?  What if we had a better government in the past, we could of not spent the money on the Iraq war and spent it on healthcare.

It is interesting that the republicans generally are against this, seemingly because they want a more conservative nation.  I'll have to agree with them here, I think the spending is awful close to fucking things up.  I'm sure it has all been put into equations in some economic pipe dreams, but how much has to change before these equations get fucked up and then there is inflation?  It is to bad we had to save the greedy rich and support the insurance companies and banking industry, and the auto industry (paying union employees 50 an hour to put in car seats).

Maybe we should see what Al Sharpton has to say, and what Rush Limbaugh has to say, and whatever is in the middle is taking all factors into account properly.
