hehe, back in the day when cs was in version 1-1.3 long before steam, me and my friends would go to hastings and open a halflife box, write the cd key down then leave.

I didn't see this coming, but I feel I should have known, in retrospect, that somehow this would all be krez' fault.

Software registration schemes aren't related to security in the traditional sense.  For example, when we type in the serial number and activate Windows, this is a separate concept from security flaws in the operating system, which are patched by the Windows Update mechanism or service pack installs.

I was fuly ready to send in my cd case covers or whatever to prove I owned it.  The ten bux did catch me by surprise.
I never thought to follow it any further than that,  but raising a stink might have bypassed it.

It's been awhile,  wonder if I would meet the same answer if I tried now....
Halflife disk, case, and everything else is long gone by now. 

The game I love most is installed and playable.
