how can i convert .pcx to .png

can some one help me with this because realistic is being gay rightnow and wont help. purris new pak has pcx and i tranfered them to my pak and played in r1gl and it doesnt work. purris works in r1gl

open a .pcx file with a number of viewers/editors(probably even mspaint), then 'save as' a .png? lol

Get an image editor like GIMP, open the pcx file, first save it as a jpg, then save it as a png.

Also, if you have GIMP, scale the image 2x and apply a 15% Gaussian blur to make it look better, because just changing a pcx to png won't do shit with the image quality.

Haunted i did that earlier and realistic said that im not really converting it 2 .png. im just changing it. but right now he is being a faggot (bundle of sticks) and wont help me

just because u can 'save' a file as png doesnt mean that 16 million colors are being used,converting is far more then that,do as fms says to do,i do something along the same lines and for u little fucker u bother me with every problem u get as if im some fucking bot to answer all of yer questions.

skillz, if you just want to convert the file do this:

use this program http://dervish.tastyspleen.net/files/iview399.exe to open the .pcx
(it should come out in what looks like shades of grey)

then unzip this http://dervish.tastyspleen.net/files/q2palette.zip to your desktop so you can find it, and using irfanview, go to the "image>palette>import palette" option

when it comes up with a browse window, select the quake 2 palette that you unzipped to your desktop.

this will apply the correct colors to the .pcx so it looks like it should in q2.
(from here on out, it's in true color and you wont need to worry about what color palette it's using)

then you just need to use the "File>Save as" command and select the .png option to save the image as a .png



If you're going to edit it manually, save it as a .bmp so you can open it in MS paint or something, then when you're done save your changes and use irfanview to make your editted image into a .png

You can also apply some basic filters to it using irfanview.

If you want your graphic to be usable in EGL, I'd recommend making them .TGA files instead of .PNG tho, since it can't seem to handle the .PNG format without crashing, and TGAs will work with everthing that can use r1gl.
