I can already see a major virus or worm attack when this comes out...  I can just see virus creators poking and prodding and throwing everything they have at this one just to one up Microsoft.  Wonder why people do that anyways...

For some reason I had a hard time downloading it from Microsoft's site.  It stopped to early or the download froze, the one time it did finish it was missing something that it needed halfway through installation.

So I went and found it for download via BitTorrent, downloaded with no problems and installation went smoothly.

If anyone else is having problems and uses BitTorrent go here, LINK DELETED    EDIT:Microsoft made this site take down there torrents, so I have deleted the link.  For more info go here http://www.broadbandreports.com/shownews/51780

So far it's working great, I love the built in Pop-up blocker, it gets ones that Yahoo's toolbar misses.

I was reading this thread on broadbandreports.com

Seems a lot of people are having problems, the only problem I have is Window Media Player crashing when trying to play Divx or Xvid videos.  I can still play them in Winamp, so it's not that big a problem.

In what has to be the ultimate in cruel ironies --since I posted the link to this download -- I had nothing but problems after installing SP2 on my XP Pro machine.

The installation went fine, no problems, no missing files, etc.

After installation, however, I couldn't get back to the desktop.  I got errors with "services.exe failed to load" and "lsass.exe failed to load".  Both of those are killer errors.

I had a heckuva time trying to boot into Safe mode (same errors), and finally managed to boot into "Safe Mode with Command Prompt", and from there ran "Start Control", which loaded a desktop and control panel.

I uninstalled SP2 from Add/Remove programs.

The only thing that I might have done to hose SP2 install was that upon shutdown/restart after the SP2 installation, the pc just stalled out.  I might have not given it enough time to do its thing before manually shutting down and restarting.  However, there was no disk activity for a couple of minutes before I shutdown.

If I get brave enough, or stupid enough, I'll give it another go and let it sit there until it reboots itself after install.

I'm also wondering if some of my current apps (which run as services at startup) are causing the issues, like ZoneAlarm, Diskeeper, etc.  Might be a good idea to disable those services before trying the reinstall.

I started haveing some problems latter on as well, I started playing Quake 2 last night and the game seemed to freeze, I noticed there was the disconnected from server icon at the top of the screen, so I typed reconnect in the console and it wouldn't connect me, and the other servers in my list weren't showing up.

Well I tried to renew the IP, but windows kept saying it couldn't, so I rebooted.  After the reboot I got a message about being low on virtual memory and still couldn't get my net connection going.  It gave what it called a private IP or something like 169.198.158.133, don't quite remember the number.  I was fortunate to be able to uninstall before anything else happened, I think I'll wait for the version on windows update, but I don't know why it would take so long before the problems started to pop up.

by default the firewall is turned on. not the typical one found on the lan setting in xp. You can manually turn it off or have it promt you for what applications you want to let access the inernet. but if your getting a generic ip  169 your network card isnt getting its ip via dhcp correctly. are you connected via cable/dsl? id check your router if you have one see if everything is a-okay.

I did set the firewall to allow Quake 2, I'm on cable no router.  Everything's fine now that I uninstalled SP2, I did have to run the network wizard before my connection would work again though.
