The death of Quake2

i have heard too much talk about the death of quake2. How it is on its last feet and dying out for good. This is nonsense. It will last forever.
However i do want to bring up the root cause of its struggle at this time. Most people point to trash talk or cheating as being the major contributor to it. I just want to clarify that the biggest danger to quake2 is: IRC !TRIVIA !!!!!!
Nothing steals more players away or causes more fights and inner termoil then the highly controversial irc trivia and the accusation of googlers!
Thank god living angels such as Laurelin will soon be releasing anti-cheats for it. Praise him the next time you see him. He is probably single-handedly saving the current face of Quake2.

The recent talk I've heard about q2 dying has all stemmed from the lack of teams signed up on the ogl ra2 ladder (right now it's down to four teams, which is a shock because it had 12 teams six month ago and almost 20 a year ago) I've not heard anyone from tastyspleen say anything about q2 dying, if anything ts has grown stronger while these other communites are withering, so I wouldnt worry about it too much Gator
If you ask me, the ra2 community dying to nothing a month and a half after it's league admins deciding to force q2a on both of their ladders (ogl and twl) is no coincidence, and before someone asks I'm not against client side cheat protection, I just don't think anybody really enjoys being forced into using a client they don't like/have trouble configuring/drops their fps/etc., and if nocheat wouldve just been updated, I think more people (me included) wouldve been happy

There weren't many people running Q2 servers at QuakeCon.
Although, there weren't that many people running Doom III servers, either.
It was mostly Q3 variations. (Including mods like Urban Terror, Rocket Arena, etc.)
Plus people were playing a ton of non-quake games too - bf1942, counterstrike, etc. etc.
It was even harder to find Q1 servers... and I couldn't find any old-skool DOOM servers at all.
I will admit i was hoping more people would be running/playing Q2, since it was "featured" at QuakeCon this year.
I also thought, after playing Quake 4 for a bit, that Q2 jump demos should have been mandatory viewing for all Q4 programmers. 'Cause it doesn't seem like there's going to be much in the way of trick jumping possibilities in Q4.... but that's another story...

oh, so it show that you do play after all
when you said that you will play soon, you prolly meant going to the q2con.

Talking bout Q4 - when's it gonna be released? I'm a games retailer and I'm only getting it this year sometime after September. But that is South Africa for you

I don't worship the devil. Jesus is Lord, friend. He died for your sins. He will forgive you if you just ask.
