I get this just about every time I play, am I missing something?

ts servers try to exec a map specific config for you... that is if you have map specific configs. just a feature

Not just R1Q2, but good ol' stock Q2 (Ver 3.20) does it too.  I figured that's what it was and always ignored it.

What is this used for normally.   Seems the only use for this feature would be to load bot configurations for each map :)

You can have different binds for different maps or reconfigure the server options for each map.

Hm, always figured the client stuff, but can the server really reconfigure things on a per-map basis? I've been looking for a method of doing that combined with sconfig or somesuch for some time now - to think it was staring me in the face this entire time!

I just tested it and it appears to be client side only, I don't see a way to execute anything similar in the server yet.

To use it client side:
Create the /cfg folder under /quake2/baseq2
Add your per-map configuration changes in files named mapname.cfg and place them in the /quake2/baseq2/cfg folder.

I see this as a good way to turn gl_dynamic on/off for maps with trance inducing strobe lighting. :)
