Help in Railz

Ok so about most of the time in Railz server. I can see my rail trail once in a while. But most of the time its non-existent. Anyone have any pak file or bug fixer for that? I understand when there is alot of players in there that that might be the problem but I hate not seeing my rail trail because I don't know how accurate i am shooting sometimes. Anyone have any ideas?

I think it has something to do with the amount of particles displayed.

are you using an old client?
r1q2 allows for more particles, or you can use the 'xania' railtrail... either way you need r1q2.  ;D

Thats what I was afraid of r1q2 don't run well on my comp, its choppy when players are near me and rocket always shoots really slow. Maybe if someone has a link to the new update r1q2 anticheat because I go to richs website and I always get the wrong version, plus I have windows 2000 on this comp which sucks and only a 4mb vid card intel solano. So sigh, so maybe a update link.

The MAX_PARTICLES variable is easily editable in client/ref.h in the source. If you really really wanted to avoid a newer client, you could simply recompile 3.20 with that line edited to a much higher number (default is 4096).

Wouldn't that get him kicked from most servers? I'm no expert at anti-cheat but I assume that CRC's and checksums are the first biggest indicator of a modified client.

As for solving your problem, most new clients replace the railtrail with a laser effect anyway to avoid the particle limits. I understand your pain, however the last time I had a machine old enough to cause video lag in quake2 I contantly set the variables:
sw_drawflat 1
cl_particles 0
cl_footsteps 0
and a few other misc. settings to improve performance. With softwaremode specifically, cl_particles 0 will solve almost all of your video lag when rockets happen close up. Don't forget that the RL shoots out the most effects out of all the gun for one shot. A big particle trail, a model that calls a "checkdodge" before hitting, the biggest poly effect, a looping sound on the projectile, an explosion sound, explosion particles, a muzzleflash sound, as well as a dynamic light following your projectile. Turning off particles is a big step to improving performance on older machine when it comes to rockets. The next, oddly enough, is sounds. In my mods to avoid the death of a thousand "minirockets" that Wod brought the world, I'm always sure to remove projectiles sounds, trials, and dynamic lighting whenever possible as well as using the TE_PLAINEXPLOSION which doesn't spawn particles.

Now a cl_particles 0 will completetly remove rail trails from view, but it's a huge training tool for dodging and learning not to crack under the pressure of an advancing enemy.
