 :bump:

I must agree with this thread, there was something great about the early 90's.  There were all those outdoor festivals and just a vibe that was missing from music since the 60's.  There are always good bands around, but when a whole slew of them pops up at the same time and changes everything, it is more of a movement.

I remember being front row at the first and second Lollapalooza's - feeling like I was about to die from the heat and amount of people.  Good times.

Pearl Jam was just horrible. They have a good band, but vocalist Eddie Vedder was always a half-assed singer in my opinion. He always looked like a retarded person in the throes of a 2 week heroin binge on stage and in his videos. His vocals we sloppy, much of it sounded like mindless mumbling. The thing is, he has a fairly decent ability to hit notes accurately, but his delivery is so lazy and sloppy .

I respect your opinion, but some of the best concerts I have been to were Pearl Jam shows.  He does mumble at times, but those concerts were amazing.  I have seen them live countless times and always enjoy it.

Alice in Chains is fucking awesome.  When i first saw this thread i was really hoping that ReCycled would have something great in store for us, and after clicking the first video and hearing the startup riff to We Die Young, i couldn't have been more pleased.  One of my favorite bands of all time, i still listen to facelift fairly regularly.

I love the dropped D tuning on the guitars, Metal. Makes that riff so heavy. And they were all young, tough and healthy then. And what a great vocalist Layne was. Love the head banging....lol.....They look good here:

some of my best sounding riffs i've come up w/ are in drop Db / in this genre. Most things in drop sound a little too generic these days though..

Alice in chains is the only band from the 'grunge' scene I still appreciate today : - >.

(and they're really metal imo)

The Facelift and Dirt studio albums were pretty metal, but the Jar of Flies EP moved away from the heavy driving riffs and focused a bit more on their knack for harmony. Layne Staley had a good fronting voice, it was somewhat rough and gritty with plenty of nasal treble. Jerry Cantrell's smoother and more mid-rangy backing vocals compliments Staley's lead vocals very well. As much as I enjoy Cantrell's guitar work, his lead vocal abilities lack the presence to make his solo albums a solid contender for becoming the huge success that Alice In Chains was. Alice In Chains was a great total package. The music was written and pieced together impeccably, their vocal harmonies were very unique sounding, they had an excellent drummer (which I think is very obvious from some of the work done on Jar of Flies), they had a great bass player who could also play a fretless bass to add a few more interesting elements to the sound. No one person in the band was lacking any talent whatsoever, in my opinion.
