my brithday came around in june and so I had a lot of extra cash, but musicians friend was having some lame warehouse moving thing, so I waited until july, then ordered an ibanez quilt top rg I finally get it today (like 5 weeks later?) and I plug it up and it has virtually the same amount of crunch as my fender
the whole reason I ordered it was cuz I always feel like I need some more power in my play, I've looked about replacing the pickups in my strat or buying a used one and changing the pickups in that, but all the of the metal style picks I've looked at (dimarzio mostly) are all the dual pickups (humbucker i think theyre called?) and I have three single sided pickups
sry I dont know much about the terminology, I just like playing them
anyways, I don't like the neck on the rg either and I was looking at some esp guitars to exchange this one for (I think ove got 45 days to send it back), have you ever played on the kirk hammett esp? the kh202, or really my question is do esp's offer more crunch, because some of the ones I see on here have the same emg pickup system that the rg does

I typically play les pauls and strats, so that is all I know. But personally, I think if you are looking for that 'crunch' or thicker/meater sound - that will come from the amp set up.
In my experience you can make a shitty guitar sound pretty damn good with a great amp/system. No doubt the pick ups help, but if you have a good guitar - the next step is a good amp/system, which will give you the ultimate sound you desire.

I run a Line 6 spider III 75 - I think I'm okay on the amp
I l;ooked at guitars for hours last night, only two I want are the schecter c-1 hallraiser and this one epi les paul custom, both were a couple hundred more than the rg but I guess its money well spent
I think im gonna go with the lp though, ive had one of those before and it was decent, dont wanna get the hellraiser and have to send it back as well, really man all the metal guitars ive looked at pretty homo, most of them are all gothed out, sad they dont really make any nice crazy lookin grunge guitars, its like a wasteland of terrible instruments, well I guess thats not true, but 500 is about the limit on what im willing to spend on a guitar, theres several ones I would like to have...
Paul Reed Smith - Standard 22 in platinum $3,000
Zakk Wylde Gibson - all of them are the same bullseye $8,000
Fender - American Series Stratocaster HSS in chrome silver $1,000
but I'm never gonna spend that amount of money on an instrument
edit: oh yeah and the fact that the les paul case is only 50 bucks was nice too, that kind of sold me on the whole thing

I don't worship the devil. Jesus is Lord, friend. He died for your sins. He will forgive you if you just ask.
