zooming isn't just changing the fov and sens. it's using an alias to do it and switch it back at will, and some people frown on the overuse of aliases when they allow you a distinct advantage over a player who is only entering commands manually. this would be about the same as having all your dj and rj aliased so you rarely fuck up on them. it's not cheating, but it isn't stock either and it gives you an advantage.

This isn't news, and you guys are a bit out of line. He asked a simple question, and even called it a simple question.
there's no reason to jump up his ass about it.

this arguement is kinda dumb.

it's kinda like saying the guy that worked out and trained for a sporting event is a cheat, because it gives him and unfair advange to the guy that just showed up to play out of the blue.

People put their own time and effort into using what code and commands are available to them to create oppertuinities to have an advantage.

well i agree with 10... it would be hard to draw the line in one particular spot.  for someone who didn't like aliases.. would it be cheating to... "bind 1 fov 40; sensitivity 1.5" and "bind 2 fov 105; sensitivity 5" and just use those 2 buttons? ailases just seem to make things more convenient, i don't think they give out a huge unfair advantage.

when I used to use zoom, it was setup similar to what metal just posted.

I just used MWHEELUP and MWHEELDOWN.  If that's too complex for you, I guess you need help.

  .....all I wanted to know was whether it was an accepted practice..i never said it was cheating becuz i didnt know and here we are on page two calling it an "arguement" acting like ive been debating it the whole time when all the while i agree with you guys that it isn't cheating becuz you told me it wasn't..which is all I wanted to know.

No its not cheating.

I'm pretty sure you can find the commands to add to your config on that binds/alias's thread that's around here somewhere.  What you want is something where you hold a key and the fov goes to like 30 and when you release the key it goes back to normal.  It's good for hitting ppl on top of lift from the ledge.

For some reason I never bothered adding a zoom to my own config.  Maybe I should...

It doesn't "snap back" to your original FOV and sens until you tell it to though..
I may just have to make one that works that way and try it out, because that seems pretty useful.
