DDR2 runs at 2x the speed of DDR (DDR1) Thats all I know.
I don't know anything about AMD's but if I knew what type of ram they accept I could tell you if it's a deal or a ripoff.

p.s. Core 2 Duo > Athlon   :righteous:

yeah I used to be intel only until this year but after I tried one of these new 64 bit athalons (I had a 3800+ that I just sold to buy this one) I'm won over by how much faster they are :P

http://www.crucial.com/store/listparts.aspx?model=M2N4%2DSLI

I suggest Crucial memory. In my many years experience as a builder of my own gaming systems and as a system administrator as my profession I have yet to experience problems with Crucial memory.

The link above will forward you to a the type of memory compatible with your motherboard.

(DDR2 PC2-5300,DDR2 PC2-4200,DDR2 PC2-6400,DDR2 PC2-8500,DDR2 PC2-8000)

I would suggest a pair of DDR2 PC2-6400 - http://www.crucial.com/store/mpartspecs.aspx?mtbpoid=5EAEA87DA5CA7304. You want to purchase memory in pairs so you may utilize double-data-rate technology. If you plan to run 32bit version of Windows you will only be able use up to 3.5 GB of memory at a time. Purchasing 4GB worth would be rather pointless if that is the case. However if you run Windows 64bit you will be able to exceed 3.5 GB of memory usage.

If you want to spend a little bit more, Crucial develops performance memory supposedly meant for gaming specific systems. I don't have much experience with using these but I'd take their word for it.

Sticks I suggest - http://www.crucial.com/ballistix/store/MPartspecs.Asp?mtbpoid=3F9A3778A5CA7304&WSMD=M2N4%2DSLI&WSPN=BL2KIT12864AA804

ok thx

I always went with supertalent, kingston or corsair - I don't really have anything for or against those companies theyre just some of the cheaper brands listed on the site I buy my hardware from, although I have to say I've never had a problem with any ram I've ever had, or if I did I didn't know that it was the ram that was causing the issue

I've heard ocz is good ram, was thinking about trying them out this time

yeah I did (actually it was 11 months ago) but it had one of those cd/dvd drive door covers someone was at my house and broke the swinging door off the front and I told them they could either buy me a new case or buy the pc and so they just took the pc, dunno why either, a 50$ case was cheaper than the $400 I was asking for It, but then again I did offer to put in an extra HD and load it up with vista 64 and all the software he wanted and I guess to someone who doesn't know much about that shit it might be a deal, the last pc the dude had was some bs dell machine with a no agp/pci-x slot either that he paid an outrageous amount for (like $800 I think) so I dunno, I was just happy to get the new machine cuz the temperature display on the front of the case is pimp shit

as for u guys dogging on amd have u been on a 64 bit athalon yet? the old amds were shit but these new ones dont give me any more probs than a pentium, use less power and run faster, I don't see how u can be like "screw amd" when a 2.4ghz amd out performs a 3.5ghz intel, and being cheaper all at the same time (also I only paid 275$ for the barebone before shipping) :P

better question is why dont u get on irc anymore mil, weve been playing ra2 pretty steady, u should come play with us and put that leet rail to some good use xD

unfortunately work and schools been keeping me real busy lately. Once in a while I'll waste a few hours on the dm server, but other than that my interest in q2 has pretty much subsided. Im looking to buy a new pc so I can play more "modern" type of games  :rocketright:

And yeah, the athlon 64 is  a good chip, but check out these comparisons  with Core 2
http://www.anandtech.com/cpuchipsets/showdoc.aspx?i=2795&p=8  :o

Well thats technololgy for you, as soon as you get the latest shit, something better always comes out 20 seconds later  ;)
Im lookin to get a Core 2 duo or maybe a Core 2 quad when the price becomes more affordable.

modern type of games like what?

I'm going to play the new ut when it comes out (if it ever comes out) - I've also heard good things about that F.E.A.R. game

as for the processor comparison I was only looking at the pentium4 950 as an alternative, core2 duo looks fast but for the decent ones it was like twice the money that I spent on the 4200+ and I dont really run anything that lags my system now, I have to use the lite version of vista to not lag while gaming but thats not that bad, lol most of the ppl where I live don't even know what vista is
