WTF!?!!!? Lagout after 10 sec

This started today..after about 10 seconds of joining a game...ANY server..not just TS.net servers, I get the phonejack.

So I try disconnecting and reconnecting...and it just keeps saying connecting.....if I "repair" the connection with WinXP it works but then I just lagout after 10 sec again.

I just downloaded r1q2 but it didn't help.

If it is your game:

• netgraph 1  --> this allows you to see your network status to the server.  netgraph 0 turns it off
• check your cl_maxfps and rate settings, try setting cl_maxfps to 30 and rate to 6000 (not permanently) to see if that clears the problem.  If it does, slowly increase the values to your liking.

If it isn't:

• Try resetting your modem
• Try pinging the gateway of your ISP.  Use ipconfig /all.  Then ping XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX where XXX is the gateway of the isp listed by ifconfig
• check for adware/etc

• Try pinging the gateway of your ISP.  Use ipconfig /all.  Then ping XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX where XXX is the gateway of the isp listed by ifconfig
• check for adware/etc

I have done all of the above, and had the cable guy come out here to check the connection, everything is fine. Its the oddest thing, my netgraph spikes about every 15 seconds, yet my ping on the server shows my ping at a stable 65 or so. I went into mutant with no one there, and it wasn't as bad, but once someone joined it went back to being really lagged. At vanilla I get the same lag, only not as bad. I also get the OldFrame message pop up on screen, and when I do lag, it rarely shows the phonejack, just repeats the movement I am doing 3 times until it catches up (sucks when trying to jump somewhere  ) I've noticed a couple other people getting the same lag, dunno if this is just the internet in general getting clogged or what....

If you have Cox, they have been performing an upgrade which has caused a problem similar to what you are describing.

I recommend you capture your pinging of the gateway in a screenshot and send it to your ISP's Level 2 tech support.

Everyone was getting (and still is as of this writing) that lag today.  Console even rebooted the machine itself, to no avail.

I was just on mutant a little while ago (approx. 2 AM EST), and it's laggy as hell, so laggy in fact that it makes it difficult to play.

My last few hops (theplanet.com) to tastyspleen are spiking into the 300-500 range, usualy they'd be 20-40.

My normal amount of hops are 11. Right now it's varying from 11 to 13.

Everyone was getting (and still is as of this writing) that lag today.   

No, they haven't. I normally ping 120-135 and the only thing that I noticed was about 20 ping added.
It's really not much of a problem for me, but perhaps this is because of the route the connection
goes through. I'm just using broadband through a normal phone line (no special cable thingy)

There are different types of so-called lag. A congested network might just result in a continuos higher ping. This was not the case for me. My ping was fairly normal looking during the period in question. The lag I experienced was erratic and due to complete packet loss along with short periodic high ping spikes, according to the traceroute. I also thought it was strange that the hops were variying.
