sorry maybe be a dumb question, how do you play the .dm2 files ppl are posting here, some type of fancy player or?

demomap is the preferred command

There's also a preferred activity that you could go do to yourself.

actually there is a demo player built in, under the options menu, seemed to work good, just save the demo in the demo folder

if you have XP, use this.
I dont even have to download when watching a demo in an attachment.
Just click open and you are watching it!

It downloads,  goes into a temp folder.
I havn't manually played a demo in ages,  I recommend it too. 

IDDA is another good demo tool,  doesn't play them but gives a ton of info about them.

I think integrating it into shell (right term?) I fudged something up and my print only works from inside a program.

Easy way to play a demo by double clicking any filename.dm2 demo file...   Just perform these three steps once.


1. open notepad, paste this in:

copy %1 "C:\Program Files\quake2\baseq2\demos"
"C:\Program Files\quake2\r1q2.exe" +demomap %~n1.dm2
Notepad menu -> Save As
C:\Program Files\quake2\run_demo.bat

2. to associate this script to your run_demo.bat player, find a *.dm2 file.

3. Left click the demo file on the desktop then right mouse click on it --> OpenWith --> ChooseProgram..
In the Open With window, click Browse
Pick C:\Program Files\quake2\run_demo.bat
click the "Always use the selected program to open this kind of file"
click ok

The script should then copy the file over, launch q2 and play the demo.


Problems?
Your location of quake2 might be in d:\games\q2 or something.. just change the file locations to match
You may use a different game than r1q2, just modify the instructions to use that executable rather than r1q2
