got a quick question.

ok every now and then in a game, my gun won't stop shooting.
It will fire off like 6 slugs in a row without me even touching my mouse.

( same with jumping, I will jump like 6 times in a row )

this always happens just when I have respawned.   

Do you think this because of my mouse? or could something else cause this? 

It is a brand new mouse, not even a full month old!

It's either the mouse or some external program from q2 affecting your mouse control; i.e. something may be trying to grab focus away from q2.

its really embarassing when it happens    

you see I also reinstalled q2 and got the new r1q2 and patches all at the same time as the new mouse.

Or else It would be as simple as "did it do it before the new mouse"? 
But I also got a new jump script and other things to.

I guess I'll just hook up my old crap mouse and play with that for a while and see if it still does it.
And if it doesn't then I'm bringing back this mouse!

Let me guess! It only does this while you are typing? 

Holding down an action button (+attack, for example) and then hitting the chat button (say) will result in that action 'repeating' even after depressing the key.

Easy fix...
Lets say I am running forward and I press T to say "newb" But I realize I will fall from atop the lift on ra2map27 
I will quickly hit esc. to exit out of the the chat and press my +forward button.

 

EDIT: I'm using r1q2, not sure if this is the same with all clients.

my r1q2 does this alot.

i will enter a new map from an old map(probably was still holding the fire button down) and i will spawn repeatedly firing, or moving or strafing.

i just need to hit the offending key again, and it stops.  Sometimes i'll fall into the lava first though.   But it only does it with r1q2 for me.  And i consider it harmless.  i just hit the offending key and move on.

I'm just glad it's not my brand new mouse,  that would have really pissed me off.

I have that problem too - firing when I don't want it. It also does a alt-tab on me and takes me to my desktop occasionally. And I know the reasons for this. Way back I nstalled one of my first MS optical mice. As a gift, Microsoft force-feeds its Intellimouse software which is basically useless. Since then I've had many other brands and they all conflict with this software. Uninstalling it has been futile. Its buried in there for life. Soon I will do a complete hard drive clean with a fresh WIn XP install and that will do the trick.
