DVI Monitors/Video Cards

Ok, this confuses me a little bit...

Most new video cards have two female DVI-I (Dual Link) ports.

Most new monitors have a single female DVD-D (Dual Link) port.

Obviously a male DVD-I (Dual Link) is not going to fit into a DVD-D (Dual Link) port. So how do you connect your monitor to your video card? Is there a cable that comes with your DVI monitor that has a male DVD-I (Dual Link) on one end AND a male DVD-D (Dual Link) end on the other? Or is it a cable with both male DVD-D (Dual Link) ends? If that is the case... wtf?

I'm just stepping out of the VGA world... DVI to VGA adaptors tend to give me a horrible display. So I'm looking to cancel out VGA and go with raw DVI.

that sucks man iv never had problems using a dvi adaptor

other then a problem where these weird ripples were showing on the left side of windows and my whole screen
but i think that was one of my ramdacs =/

nope that is the display problem I have with adaptors. the right side of windows echo or show ripples of itself faintly. I HATE THAT! finally someone else who experiences the same problem.

really? you have a similer problem?

i fixed it by changing to the other dvi port on my card
never seen it since

same exact problem. I think I tried that... but it's worth a shot. I get a new card Monday anyhow.

Answered my own question...

A DVI-D cable will always fit in a DVI-D or DVI-I port.  The DVI-I has 4 more pins for analog transfer,
these don't exist on the DVI-D cable, so you'll maintain a strictly digital data transfer.

did more research, pretty sure this is called 'ghosting'. happens on alot of monitors. if you get a monitor with a fast response time, the better off you are.
