That animated .gif is being served off a completely different system so it won't affect any of th q2 servers, nor the forums, ...

Personally, I like it... Someday I'd like to edit it to have fewer frames, ... but anyway, it doesn't affect the performance of the site, except for the home page (which is unfortunate, but, the home page is pretty sparse...)

I like the page but, damn animation makes me hunt to click on the links, my eyes keep getting side tracked and I end up trying to follow the player around lol.

I am old though, may be the reason

It is an awesome clip, but I watched it once so now its just a laggy home page.  I'd suggest going back to the old Q2 logo for a clean and simple look, or something new.

Its pretty cool you were able to get it on there at all though.

I'll admit, the lag is getting to me, too. 

If anybody has any nice screenshots of "quake2 in action", feel free to submit them...  What I'll probably do is just start putting cool screenshots as the background, either randomized when the page is loaded, or switch to a new one every week or so... Something like that.

what size and format would you want those screenies in, console?
we can edit them up a bit, prior to uploading them, and save you the trouble...

Probably in the neighborhood of 640x480 jpeg... with the quality adjusted so the file size is as small as possible without the image looking crappy when it's zoomed up to full screen by the web browser.     (Meaning, the quality might have to be jacked up a little extra because the picture will be zoomed...)
