this is a reworking of the original awakening mod(made by Redchurch) coded by Musashi- an excellent q2 mapper...some of you might have played the first version at backshooters-- this mod is incredibly fun and has great new dm, ctf and assault maps. The game types for the mod include Threewave CTF, FFA, Team DM and Assault-

some of the folks at backshooters have put together a .zip of all the maps that are played on all the servers at backshooters- it weighs in at a whopping 250megs but will save you hours of downloading time and is well worth doing. it's here: http://www.fileplanet.com/dl.aspx?/planetquake/awakening2/bsmaps.zip

has anyone here d/l'ed this mod? any comments? anything? anything at all? I have played at Xquake for quite a while but not lately...the admins know who I am, and I thought this was maybe a crowd who could appreciate a new mod and some new maps... ah well....

For players with lower bandwidth connections, the main download (v2.0.0) is split into two parts:
(1) The "mod only" file, which contains the resources (models, sounds, etc) that are required to play Awakening II. This also contains the DLL or SO file that servers need to run.

(2) Map pack #1, which can be downloaded separately from http://dynamic6.gamespy.com/~awakening2/code/dl.php?item=maps

Otherwise, grab the full install which contains everything you need to get going!

Unzip the downloaded file into your Quake2 folder, using folder names -- an 'awaken2' directory should be created. See the included manual for further information on running or joining an Awakening II server.

I have played the original awakening mod before i think. From i think i do remember it wasnt bad. Pretz was the one who introduced me to it i think

and I introduced it to her....it's very fun and has some great weaps that haveother roots....

the new disc launcher(still being beta tested) is derived from UT
and the Anti Grav Manipultor is from Half Life

throw in some laser traps and a BFG that will KICK YOUR ASS!
most the weaps have dual fire modes...great fun. :wink:

Hey Bassman,

I'm mainly a DM guy, but I liked the awakenings mod.

I was starting to get into it a long time ago with you guys, but for some reason I quit, dunno why offfhand. I think it had something to do with d/ling all those bigass maps lol

yeah all those Map dee ells are a pain...
Backshooters is a place where we really only play custom maps and that's why the .zip file was compiled- it has all and I do mean all the maps played on all the different backshooters servers-
it has become quite the mapping community also with several quality mappers( Maric, Sherm, Musashi, Jester, Wildman, Panzer among others) putting together some incredible environments to frag in- if any of you are into q2 mapping, there is a mappers forum on our main forum...
The forums are also host to PSC and MAN clan forums and among other things :wink:

hey great work on the awakening site guys. ill have to come try awakening when i get the chance, ive been so busy. I remember playing at the old original awakening server, some time ago when it was password protected. I see the servers on ping tool and the ping reads like 20!? mabie ill drop in backshooters irc during the weekend.

nope... however we do have one still pw protected for beta testing...as far as the others, we were having some wallhacker/bot problems- so that's why that was done...then Q2ace went bellyup and it was decided to just let em be... :wink: if certain people were causing probs they went away :wink:

I dunno about Digital Paint, but jitspoe's got this Digital Paint 2 deal going on, with a custom client (quake2.exe) and everything! - http://www.planetquake.com/digitalpaint/

Jailbreak.. now there's a mod I really wanted to play back then, along with CTF. Heck, I went and found as many Jailbreak files as I could since I was planning on running a server for it.. Think I should? I mean, would you guys enjoy it ?

And Weapons of Destruction.. talk about fun.. man, explosives rule!!

I've played a few others, like OSP (gotta have OSP !), RA2, and Vortex (Q2 RPG, similar, or even the same code base as Kots2K?.. anyway, its alot of fun!)
