.pak makers - need a little help

I was wondering how I'd implement the particle explosions vs. the graphic you see normally. In naymlis.pak you see an example of what I'm talking about. I don't see anything in particular except in the /models/objects sub-directory. I'm thinking it's the /r_explode, /rocket, and /smoke directories that do it. Am I way off?
Thanks
edit: It would also seem I need a .pak editor that supports underscore characters in filenames. ( _ ) As pakexplorer doesnt
So if you have a line on one I'm all ears

use pakscape
pakexplore is crap
the explosions arnt particals, there models
unless you mean the particals that they give off
there isnt much you can do about those, except mess witht he pallet, which would propbably make quake2 look messed too
anyways, i think the only things you can edit are /r_explode /explode /flash /smoke as far as weapon explosions
im not sure what the diff is between /r_explode and /explode, but im sure one oft hem effects grenade and rocket explosions
/flash i think effects blaster and hyperblaster explosions and /smoke effects shotgun/supershotgun/machinegun/chaingun explosions

egg salad. Muchos Gracias. BTW I hope you don't mind but I'm tryin to make a modified version of your pak you released a while ago. It's a damn fine .pak, but like I said I like the "particle" looking explosions and I wanted to tweak some of the crosshairs and sounds.

maybe a few things
BTW us/3r, you might be interested in this
http://www.r1ch.net/forum/index.php?topic=196.0
called pakoptimz, its a dos command line tool (but you can just simply drag and drop paks into it) to reduce space in a pak files
i know iv reduced my paks by atleast 10mb, but it will vary
the down side is you will have to run your pak through each time you save it with pakscape
as saving it will undo the optimizations (i heard if you use pakexplore with it, it will corrupt it
)
very handy if you plan to share it with people over the net

Cool I'll check that out.
I think I'm done with PakExplorer. It doesn't support underscore as a valid filename
....and tended to corrupt files for no reason. And Pakscape has a much nicer GUI.

I don't worship the devil. Jesus is Lord, friend. He died for your sins. He will forgive you if you just ask.
