which client do you use? its really just a cvar but i believe its different for each client, change the cvar value and it will take screenshots as jpg or png instead, its really quite nice

i honestly dont know the cvar off hand

so best ask some one who does

If you are using r1q2 with r1gl, you don't need to do anything--it takes png screenshots by default.

For aprq2, you need to add this to your config:

Sawtooth is usually a bad day for dialup, my AOL would do that every so often, I would just wait it out or try another number. Could try tweaking rate and cl_maxfps

Not quite the same appearance, but a program doing an update will screw things up for awhile.
Happened to me yesterday with adobe. Could not figure out what it was till the install screen popped up.
