Yeah, well it doesnt really matter, this game seems to still be fairly populated, with a couple mappers and modders here and there.

I agree that Quake2 is the best multiplayer game of the series,mainly because the others don't have the various types of powerups from the single player part of the game.Power shields and ammo packs and silencers do add considerably to your firepower aginst other players.I've been getting into using the silencers especially:catch someone unawares with a silenced super shotgun and watch your victim panic trying to figure out where the attack is coming from.Better yet,it lasts for 10 shots with no time limit which is perfect for tossing rails without alerting others to where you are.Quake 4 was so disappointing to me since it only had megahealth and invulnerbility,as did Doom3.

But the best single player game still remains Quake 1.The weapons were good,and the atmosphere of the maps were mysterious and strange.Occult nightmares would reach out of the dark to rend you with grinning eyeless faces.There are still a small ahndful of mappers making single player map sets for it too.I heard John Carmack speak in person once,and he said he wanted to see both Quake 1 and 2 remade with the Doom3 engine as budget titles.I hope it happens.

quake4 was a big let down for me too, the single palyer was great. but the multiplayer was way to much like quake3
which was IMO the worst game to come out of ID. doom3 was again  great single player
but the multiplayer sucked even worse lol

dont get me started on quake3

quake1 still has its place as the "original" very fun, fast pased multiplayer
quake2 was the last great multiplayer game, its just the right speed and takes more skill IMO with movement and jumping and the like
its disgusting that none of the newer stuff has come close
