My first brightskins pak. I didn't spend that much time on these, and they didn't turn out quite as good as I'd hoped they would. Hopefully sometime down the road I can do another version with similar bright camo patterns and add more detail, but these will do for now.

Hey, finally bright skins that don't shout "I'm a total winy noob who uses obnoxiously bright colors to my advantage!"  These actually LOOK cool too.

I've got an old Sepultura T-shirt with that same orange fire camo pattern all over it, always liked how badass that camo style looked and wanted to do up some player models with it. The colors for the female and cyborg models were just afterthoughts really. I took a pretty large woodland camo vector and just paint bucket colored the blobs to make a different color pattern for all 3 of these. I kinda hate the way the blue camo looks on the cyborgs. I should've used a gray color for the sky blue blobs, but the way the lighting hits the models in Q2, it would've been a little difficult to get the tone of it just right to where it wouldn't look either too white or too black. Plus it would've made the overall look of it from a distance probably appear darker, counter-productive to the whole "brightskin" objective. The cyborgs all look like they're wearing cutesie fuckin' kiddie pajamas.

Actually, if you try the pak in a quick game of FFA, you'll see that the yellow in the females green camo isn't really visible. Mostly, you'll just see a solid green player. I noticed just that playing earlier today and was kinda wishing I would've actually made the yellow blobs more numerous in the female camo to make it look less TOTALLY green from a distance.

Might make a 2nd version of these one of these days. I upped the size of the stock skins by something like 4x (from 256p to 2048p, I think) so that it would display the camo pattern clearly, but didn't do anything to retouch or redo the other parts (faces, arms, feet, etc) without camo. If I do another version, I'll take a shot at redoing those parts from scratch.

Also, Focalor's Pak v10 is still in the works. Hoping to get it finished and posted by late January 2015. It's gonna be chock full of brand new models. Here's one I'm in the process of hammering on, a metal gasoline can to replace the plasma cell ammo packs.

I was considering that possibility since it's such a popular model among the DM and Vanilla FFAers. Then again, they probably wouldn't be used by the people who are actually sporting the cow models themselves. What'll happen is the folks who DON'T use cow models and have only male, female, and cyborg models (like me) will use them to more easily identify cow players and target them first in a crowd just to be dicks (again, like I would do, no doubt).

So... maybe. But probably not. Doesn't really seem worth the effort.

Hmmm, maybe sooner than LATE January. I think I'm finished with creating custom models. I did new ammo packs for everything, and I was hoping to do new gun pickup models for all the weapons, but I think I've decided against it now. So many tiny little parts, so many weird angles to things, and then once I convert it from MilkShape3D to an MD2 model, they'll likely become whomper-jawed all to shit like the Slayer pentagram quad damage model I did... and then I'll have to go back and tinker with the models over and over again until I finally find a way to convert it to MD2 with the least amount of vertice distortion possible. Fuck that shit. I'm doing this shit for FUN, and that shit is too much like WORK.

I'm going to "attempt" to borrow maybe one or two gun models from another non-Quake2 thing and convert them to MD2. Dunno if it'll work, I'll just have to see what comes out the other side if anything at all. But I've got a good bit of the "/pics" stuff done already, some of the more tedious time consuming stuff like the main menu, conchars, health and ammo numbers. All that's really left is to finalize what I wanna do with ammo and weapon and item icons and get them done, also the sub-menu banners, inventory menu window, F1 help info window. None of that should take too long.

I've got fuck-all else to do right now, plenty of time to devote to it, so it could easily be out by early or mid January. Stay tuned.

Well that was kinda quick and painless. Okay, so there will be a couple of weapon pickup models in this pak too. Successfully combined and converted an MD3 model of a Barrett style sniper rifle to MD2. Didn't even have to screw with skin mapping at all, it carried over the mapping from the previous model with no fuss. So even with the inclusion of a few new weapon pickup models, should be able to get this pak done and posted by mid-Jan at the latest.
