Just finished posting my latest pak. Lots of new and somewhat improved stuff in this one. Several decent sized images on the preview page for it, so it might take a bit to load it all if you have a slower connection speed. Lots of new larger sized icons. So the public likes it. Good deal.

It took a lot of hours the past 2 or 3 weeks to do up the models. Most of the /pics stuff for this pak I had completed back in probably January or February but then I stopped. Didn't resume work on things until about 2 or 3 weeks ago. While I was painting up all the models, I made sure to save all my hand-edited photoshop PSD files with labels on all the layers that I cut apart so that the next time I wanna paint up models it should go MUCH faster and be much less of a pain in the ass.

I'm probably gonna start a new Focalor's Pak v10 pretty soon. Dunno how soon. I'm not too crazy about the woodland camo on everything like I got in this pak. I've got several other camo patterns on file, stuff like modern military digital camo, some traditional blobbed style patterns like the woodland camo but with different colors, hunting camo styles (mossy oak, realtree, etc), even some black and white skull camo. So the next time around, things should look a lot more interesting and unique.

REALLY wish I knew how to create models. I've been wanting to do away with the hi-res health boxes and create some boxes that resemble 12 packs of bottled beer and suitcases of canned beer. Maybe redo the megahealth to look like a liquor bottle. Maybe redo some ammo boxes. Maybe redo the rocket projectile model too look like rocket propelled dildos or RPG rockets. And if I could do all the simpler stuff like that, then maybe I'd attempt doing some new weapon models. I'd love to make an M4 or AK47 to replace the machine gun, maybe something like a bolt action Browning rifle or a Barrett M107 sniper rifle for the railgun. There's a whole world of guns out there, it'd be nice to bring em all to Q2.

I tried reskinning some of these models before and it was a nightmare to get the placement of icons right and scale everything perfectly.

It was a bit of a pain at first. To figure out what went where on the models, I had to scribble in different colors on different parts of the skin, then convert it to the q2 palette and save it as PCX, then open up the model and apply that skin to it in MD2Viewer and see where those scribbled colors appeared on the model. Then I'd go back and free-hand cut around that specific part of the model skin and make a copy as a new layer. Took lots of going back and forth to discover where all the parts went and get everything cut and copied out into a decently usable template.

Screwing around painting up all those cars for Nascar Racing 2003 with pre-made photoshop PSD templates helped a lot. Templates with layers ARE THE SHIT. I've got somewhat of a template for the conchars now so I can make different conchars with relative ease. One layer of the photoshop document is just a green grid that I measured out which acts as a guide to show you where the precise edges of each character are. I also did a layered image with a green grid for the main menu too, so those will be much easier to create from now on.
