Server and game load problem
« on: December 13, 2004, 03:07:24 PM »
I'm wondering if some one can help me out with these two issues.

(1) I run a LMCTF server for my old clan mates and whoever else wants to join in. I have noticed in the console window that I sometimes get the following message.

Net_Get packet:WSAECONNRESET from 213.226.92.205:3472 the ip and port number may change but the message still pings back on a regular basis. This seems to have no affect on the server. It appears that these messages actually come back from some of the master servers I ping.

Yesterday one of my buds and I decided to play a little 1 on 1 DM so I started a sever through the option menu within quake. After a few minutes of play the server shut down and the above message appeared. This happened three times and we finally said **** **. Any ideas why this happens and how to stop this remote console reset??

(2) When I go to play quake no matter if I play regular DM or a mod I get this message.

Warning:VDP-Opensockect: bind WSAEADDRINUSE. It does not seem to do anything but I suspect it should not be there. Any one know what address it is pointing to and again how to stop it??

Thanks for the help.

(1) Windows XP / 2k right? I believe that might be the connection reset bug with Quake2+XP. You might try using another Quake2 binary, at least for your Quake2 server - NoCheat / NCServer, R1Q2 / R1Q2 Dedicated Server

(2) If done through the menu, there shouldn't be anything to worry about. Because I know that, even when you're just using the client part on a standard 3.20 binary, Quake2 will try to open a socket for both client and server, even if the server isn't going to be used. It still seems weird that you're getting that error, but I'd assume that's all it is.

Thanks for the info, I changed my binary and things seem to be working fine, I still can't get my server to show up on qtracker though and I am pinging one of it's masters. Have not gotten any help at that forum though.

Quake II is not 27 years old. I refuse to accept THAT much time has gone by.
