r1q2 specify config?

What a noobish question, but anyway...

I am searching for the perfect client so I can get back into it regularly.  I have tried a few, but all have some sort of issue that irks me lol....

So far, R1Q2 is the winner in the clubhouse; but my question is, can you specify a different filename for the config file, or is it hard coded into the client?

 Autoexec.cfg adding whatever R1q2 settings you need, simply bind a key within the autoexec.cfg "bind :KEY: exec autoexec.cfg . Hope this helps
btw it can be whatever you want  doesnt have to be autoexec just has to end with .cfg

Not quite what I was after, but I may have to go with it.

Basically, I am trying to get r1q2 to leave my vanilla 3.20 config file alone and use its own config.  Every other client I have tried uses their own config file (aprconfig.cfg for example for AprQ2), this is the only one I have tried that seems to want to use the default config filename.

But, as it turns out, what I really should be using is r1gl to gain the widescreen support using the new gl renderer.  From what I have read it is supposed to use its own config (r1gl.cfg), but it still is not.

I know these are some really noobish things-stuff I should already know, but just don't know....

You should do what misery said. Regardless there will be some kind of settings that you'll have to change from vanilla to r1q2, those of which I'm sure are mostly mouse settings.

To activate r1gl and its features, you just need to load it via the vid_ref cvar. I don't think you need some kind of cfg for it. I don't remember ever using such a cfg for it and I don't have one in my r1q2 folder.

you can also set your config.cfg file to read only to avoid having any client change it's contents.

yes
you can change its name to "firebird.cfg" (eg.) and everytime you start r1q2 type "exec firebird.cfg" or add that cmd to your autoexec config.

Here is an example of an over the top autoexec.cfg (mine) that i posted awhile back to trouble shoot some stuff that ended up being unrelated can help you get some ideas at the very least of stuff you can do
