Free quake 2 clone?

Ok, so now after alot of toughts i saw the q2kicker and it's allright.
But what about the players who wants singleplayer?
So i wonder. would it be possible to make a custom q2kicker with custom maps without getting sued?!
And then distribute it freely on moddb etc?

Although I'm opposed to pirating games (Just games mind you ) I don't think ID is going to give 2 shits at this point about such an old game. However You can still buy the game for almost nothing at all on steam.

You're getting ripped off by id for this game imho.  It's, AT BEST, a $5 game, not $10.

Either way, there's nothing stopping anyone from loading up SP maps in Q2kicker (or any other engine) & playing.  you'll be missing monsters but I think some people have replaced some monsters.

Even though these games are super old they have to have some value still left in them, eh? I got Doom II for ten dollars and never felt ripped off. It's DOOM!

I got Ultimate Doom, Final Doom & Doom ][ for $10, that's a good deal. 

I agree they have some value left in them, I just don't feel they're worth $10.  Lower to $5.  I buy games on gog.com relatively frequently but don't feel some are worth $10.

Actually, if you're gonna use a low ball number like 10, it's more like "10 times out of 10" because that 9 would round up to a 10. Those are pretty damn good odds if you ask me.

I mean that's provided we're talking about "illegal downloads" such as torrents and similar person to person filesharing. People still get away with uploading copyrighted data to these many file hosting sites and then posting text links on messageboards. I think how they get away with it is because the company doesn't actually own the servers storing the data, they just act as more or less a directory service to those files. They absolve themselves from liability by making people agree that they won't upload copyrighted material and then they do NOTHING to check what materials the person is uploading. I'm a little curious to know who and where the actual storage servers are, seems like they could possibly be quite liable. Maybe they're just deflecting the criminal responsibility back to the directory service company. God bless lawyers and legal jargon!

To sum that part of it up.  Lawyers don't always argue that though.  IE Craigslist still got in trouble for allowing whore ads even though they didn't screen all content.  Always found it strange that paying someone for sex is illegal but paying someone to have sex with someone else & taping it IS legal.

Actually... prostitution is quite legal in most states. Local governments are well aware of what happens at these oriental "spa" places. They make them take a regular STD test and pay a licensing fee and they're good to go. Although that doesn't always guarantee that the local authorities won't still bust them for prostitution, it just depends on how much political pressure they get to take action and raid those places. Escorts are the same way. You can advertise as an escort or a full body massage therapist in local adult papers that they give out for free in head shops, XXX shops, and strip clubs as long as you pay the license fee and get tested and registered. They also have to post your licensing number in the ad to protect the publisher of the paper from liability.

Yeah, the government tells everyone prostitution is illegal, but everyone else in-the-know knows that it's just what they say to keep the people who aren't looking at those free titty magazines happy and convinced that their government isn't allowing the ungodly abomination of solicited fornication to take place. The government could care less, they get their cut of the action. And if they catch enough heat about these massage parlors operating in their jurisdictions, they finally cave in and go raid them and then seize their assets. Either way, they're always making money from it.
