Fraps sound wont work

So fraps wont record sound from q2 no matter if i use an older full version or a newer trial version i just downloaded...

tried with q4 too, same shit... so... i think its a problem with my computer

any thoughts/solutions?

would like to have sound on the youtube clips i upload XD and i dont wanna set my laptop up with fraps and quake JUST to record demos...

i only see two options, "Detect best sound input" and "Use Windows input" and ive tried both no dice...

i havent tried on my laptop yet, but trying both a trial version directly downloaded from fraps yesterday and an older full version, i dont think its the program :/ it might be a stupid windows setting somewhere or a problem with a driver maybe? im using the realtek audio drivers that came with my motherboard so i dont think that could be it either :/

im just lost on this and its kinda frustrating

never had a problem getting sound with these settings. i dont think you are on vista, so idk how that all works, its version 3.2.3 build 11796

this is making me seriously sad id upload full demos to youtube occasionally if this would work with sound.... >_> dont really wanna set up an aprq2 client JUST to export demos... that shit never works anyway

well you got a 2009 version there, you can try this one, its the one i use, i found it on here a few months back, cuz my fraps went from recording smoothly to recording at 3fps, i got this veresion and it cleared all that up.

i downloaded a newer version of fraps already straight from the fraps site, i figured a legal trial version might fix the problem buuuuut no dice still wouldnt record sound

How DO you export demos as .avi files in AprQ2 anyway? :<

avirecord         <fps>      Start recording avi while in demo playback. Names avi with 'demoxx.avi'.
avistop                  Stop exporting avi.
avi_codec         <codec>      Select codec. Use fourCC to specify the codec (ec 'xvid')
avi_codecmenu         0|1      Enable window list to select avi codec.

well i tihnk the aviexport thing is supposed to have a certain number of fps... buuut... since they are high quality uncompressed frames when you play it back instead of doing the 60fps its supposed to, it might just have trouble playing back so it seems to be slow with shit quality when in truth its just REALLY high quality and unable to play back lol.... perhaps encoding the video after the fact might make it playable?

i stayed quiet in irc while adren helped rick fix the same problem

gotta mute mic volume and unmute stereo mix works great now

One other option is a cable run from your headphone output to your microphone input on your sound card, then telling fraps to use the best input which usually picks the mic.

I was able to cobble together a quicker fix at work one day by taping a set of earbuds to my desktop microphone.
It's not the most amazing quality, but it's better than nothing.
