Hey everyone!

I already posted this on another forum, but just in case anybody knows about this here:

I just ran into the problem where I can't install ATI Radeon Catalyst software for my video card - ATI Radeon X1300/X1550 512MB with dual output (DVI / VGA) [also have 2 monitors connected at the same time]. The problem started right after I installed Windows 7 64bit. In Windows 7 32bit I had no problems installing this software.

So, basically what happens, I run the installation package - it unpacks everything fine, then I go through prompts, select Custom/Automatic installation and right when it starts analyzing current hardware I get a BSOD with a reboot.

I've tried all of those versions with the same result:
- 11-6_vista64_win7_64_dd_ccc_ocl
- 11-4_vista64_win7_64_dd
- 10-2_legacy_vista32-64_dd_ccc
- 9-3_vista64_win7_64_dd_ccc_wdm_enu
- ATI_Catalyst_Windows7_8.612-64bit

I've tried it in Safe Mode as well and got 2 errors (during which I was getting BSOD while normally booted).
At first it would say: "Failed to load detection driver in safe mode",
then: "Failed to detect system configuration"
then it would hang with no further action.

I've attempted using Mobility Modder - same problem.

I've also used BlueScreenView:
The line highlighted with red is:
ntoskrnl.exe ntosrkrnl.exe +4af545 fffff800'02653000 fffff800'02c30000 ....
(I've included the full screenshot attached)

Also when BSOD appears it says something about a problem with Plug-n-Play.

Based on all the symptoms it is obviously a problem with Windows 7 64bit in particular having a problem with hardware detection of the video card.

I would really appreciate any help or ideas on this! Thanks!

*** It seems like I was able to install just the video driver (separate from Catalyst software)

*** However, under display adapter it shows windows driver currently. It gives normal resolution for windows, however I can't even play quake2 using OpenGL :(

*** Computer Specs:
Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU E8400 @ 3.00 GHz 2.99 GHz
Installed memory (RAM): 8.00 GB
System type: 64-bit Operating System (Windows 7)

you should get the right driver for the OS or the right OS for the driver

That's the best advice I have ever seen from reaper's fingers.

Mir, you need to either take this to ATI or to Microsoft because either the ATI driver is not the correct one or it has bugs, only ATI can fix that. Microsoft needs to know about it so you should report this through the report problem to Microsoft tool. You should also read the installation procedure and make sure which order you are supposed to install the hardware vs. the software. Some PnP hardware requires you to install the software drivers before you install the hardware. You should also be using the drivers distributed via Microsoft if at all possible. These are TESTED drivers and even though they are not the latest, they will be the most stable. It's always better to be behind the power curve than on the bleeding edge.

I don't worship the devil. Jesus is Lord, friend. He died for your sins. He will forgive you if you just ask.
