Does Q2 work on new computers?

I've had tons of games that worked on win98 that don't work on winXP. I've loaded a few of them on my buddy's win7 machine just to see if they would magically work with that OS. They didn't. Quake2 was NOT one of them. Quake2 works with pretty much every OS since 98. The only problems I could foresee you having would be hardware based. There are video cards out there that have openGL on the box but still won't run openGL based games. BUT... if you're buying a new computer, I assume it would have a new and top of the line video card, so you don't have to worry.

In short... YES, Quake2 will work on a BRAND NEW windows computer. If it doesn't, I'll give you a new one that it will run on.

Preemptively, if your new comp. has an Nvidia card, you'll want to make sure the "threaded optimization" is disabled for Q2 in the Nvidia control panel...

Q2 is open source.  It would be difficult indeed for someone to stop it from working on modern hardware.

Stock Q2 will run from Win95 to Win Vista (no 7 to test).  Odds are you'll need to update your video drivers, but that's it.  It doesn't require hardware acceleration & it supports OGL if you got it, that pretty much covers everything out there.

It's not by Valve or Epic, it was made for portability.
