Man Reflex, that instantly reminded me of Columbine.  I started playing quake2 in 1998 (9th grade year).  I learned about the game at school, and that's the only place I knew to play it.  They talked about the fact that Eric and Dylan played games like Doom and Quake2, and our school administration immediately removed quake2 from all of the computers in the computer lab after the Columbine Shooting.

This game means something different to everyone(leisure, break from reality, out of boredom, competition, or anywhere in between)... When you play it so much to the extent where you find yourself taking a BREAK from the game in order to have leisure time from in-game stress, a break from your usual "reality", or from competition making you emotional.......... then chances are you are addicted to this game to some extent. At least no one is losing their jobs or getting expelled from school from q2 like in my older tdm days, though.

obviously not as bad as a black tar heroin addiction, or especially someone with a 8 a day McD's double cheeseburger addiction.

There's no such thing as a gaming addiction, all it is is an excuse so parents won't have to take responsibility for their children and their own inability to be parents. Then the doctors come into play wondering "How can we make money off of this?" The answer? ADD.

My generation was bad, but it's nothing compared to the current one. It's only going to get worse.

I know several people my age that are addicted to games, that also don't live with their parents. Playing CoD 8 hours a day and breaking an x-box controller every week is a ridiculous habit. Breaking 2 guitars both worth more than $1,000, because someone is sniping you from a tower.......... addiction to a certain extent. I call it addiction because he keeps playing it although it's detrimental to his personality, behavior, and financial situation.

Yes, much fault could be placed on the parents, but that's same with ANY addiction. And you can have an "addiction" for almost anything, just because there's a lot of phony cases for this an ADD doesn't mean that there's no such thing as it.

People need to do a intervention, take the person outside and chain them to a tree and expose them to sunlight, trees, and breezes.
Maybe it is not a good idea right now unless you live in FL like me where it is in the 70's and sunny

Putting it in a locked cabinet was fine,  no matter what else was stored in there.

Problem was not stashing the key in a safe place.   Alot of people do stupid shit like that.
Keep all the guns in a locked cabinet,  and keep the key on top of it.

Showed my friend how to "day lock" his gun safe..  and now that's all he does.

I don't have anything,  so I can't really talk shit on people.  :)

I don't think it's a good idea for ALL kids, but I think in most cases if you're going to have a collection of firearms, it's appropriate to teach your kids a little bit about them once they reach a certain age. Primarily you want to teach them "safety FIRST", things like NEVER point the business end of one at another person, how to make sure a firearms safety mechanism is engaged, maybe how to tell if one is loaded and how to completely unload and unchamber it. Most of all, I think it's a great idea to show a kid exactly WHAT a firearm will do when fired in order to teach them the proper respect for it's power. Kids see shit about guns on TV and in movies that isn't very realistic. When people get shot, they don't get up and keep going. When guns fire, they don't just go "pow". I think once a kid hears the terrifying and deafening crack of a handgun or shotgun and sees with their own eyes what it will do to lets say a watermellon, they'll probably have a whole new understanding and fear of what a gun can do to living flesh. Personally, I just think it's pretty irresponsible to possess guns and then never teach your children hands-on about them. You're basically allowing them to make the choice on their own at some point to teach themselves by trial and error about guns, which can have deadly consequences. I used to have a cousin that isn't here anymore for that very reason. Him and his buddy were at his house alone one afternoon when they decided to play with his dads guns. He picked up a gun and started playing around with it, jokingly put it to his head and said, "I'm gonna kill myself.", and pulled the trigger. He took the clip out beforehand, but forgot to check the chamber.
