Alpha and Zordon were made up by Saban, they were never in the "original" show.  They did use footage of the original bad guys, only her name was not Rita, it was Bandora.

Man, when I was growing up, there was no better show to watch than Mighty Morphin Power Rangers (including a few other shows/cartoons, specifically Beast Wars).  I remember really anticipating the very first episode of it back in 1993.

I loved every episode I saw, but I was one of the fans who were kind of turned away by it when they started to bring in the new Rangers/villains.  I believe I stopped watching it when the Machine Empire took over from Rita and Lord Zedd because I missed the beginning of the season and was lost.  Then I saw how they went in space for a while...After that I didn't think anything of the Power Rangers.

...Until Monday December 5th at 7:00am.  I was trying to get to sleep and was going through my digital cable channels looking for something new to watch.  I was amazed to find Mighty Morphin Power Rangers on.  Watching the 25th episode called "Gung Ho!" brought back so many memories right away.  So naturally I started downloading the first three seasons of them (which totals 155 episodes), and right now I am downloading Power Rangers Zeo (4th season with the Machine Empire, only 50 episodes).  I haven't watched a full episode yet besides "Gung Ho!", but am looking forward to watching them even though I wish the quality was better.  A shame they never released DVD collections of them.

I always love going back and reviving things I used to enjoy throughout the years.  I can be very nostalgic at times, and this is no exception.  Don't think I would like the new seasons too much because the originals were so good, but I was surprised to find out that Tommy (Green Ranger, my favorite) returned in Dino Thunder as Dr. Tommy Oliver.  I may even check out the new Mystic Force season next year to see how far they have come since then.

Have fun watching them, but I would encourage you to check out the original shows that were hacked up to make Power Rangers.

As far as Mystic Force is concerned, I can only see Power Rangers getting even worse.  The original show, Mahou Sentai Magiranger, is really good with all kinds of emotional, dramatic, and comedic elements.  But being based on magic, I'm sure Disney will make it into some watered down, corny, Harry Potter wannabe.

And for 2006 we have Gougou Sentai Boukenger, which will be hacked up for Power Rangers in 2007.

The reason for the new rangers and villians each year is because the original Sentai shows are different every year, different theme, cast, and show title.  Been that way since it started, back in 1975.  Somewhere along the way Saban stopped trying to make each new season of Power Rangers a continuation of the last.
