Water/Lava troubles..

Eversince ive been playing q2 on this quadcore 9600 phenom system i noticed the cpu or vid card Ati Radeon HD3800
reacts very heavily when its given big pools of water or lava to load, it's making my pc very noisy..
I cleaned my pc pretty well, didn't change a thing, i also monitor the heat of everything which seems ok to me..
To be more clear this problem does NOT occur without big pools or other games at all..



My Question : Is there any command that changes the way lava and water is rendered or loaded w/e?

Are you sure the other case fans are working? Maybe one has died and is causing the video card fan and CPU fan to run harder than usual.

^^ could be the slight stress pushing it pass temp thresholds and throttling down...

I have 3 fans, all working..
fan 1: 3100RPM
fan 2:1060RPM
fan 3:1600RPM

Well the noise is obviously from one of the fans, probably the one on the video card. Mine does the same shit. The fan on my CPU is already a little louder than I'd like it to be, but when the video card fan kicks on, it sounds like a god damn shop vac running. I've tried sticking another video card in there, and the fan on that card did run silent, but I was still having problems with games locking up for 20-30 seconds at a time, so I just stuck the old one back in. Apparently my motherboard is just a piece of a crap. I had a PSU go tits up and it took the old hard disk and the rows of RAM with it. After replacing all that, it never ran the same again. There's only one plug on the mobo for CD drive cables and that plug is fucked up to where 90% of the time when I stick a CD in one of the drives and it starts to spin up, it reboots the system. The #1 master slot for the hard drive plug on the mobo just recently went to shit too, but luckily there's a #2 master plug, so I got it running off of that. Believe me, when you think your computer is a piece of shit, just think of me and say, "Well, at least my shit ain't as bad as Focalor's." And I'm too damn cheap to get another one, I figure I'll run this sumbitch until it dies before I go spending another 2k on a new one.

As far as your video running a little sluggish when big pools of water are present on a map, there might not be anything you can do. Mine does that too, and I've got a 256mb video card (Nvidia 7600gt). I dunno if you can get a replacement fan for a video card, but that would help the noise. I don't think it would be too wise to attempt lubing any part of the fan to make it quieter, most lubes are gonna be oil based and could be a fire hazard, not to mention the fact that it wouldn't last very long anyway. Probably within a few hours of it running it would collect dust and breakdown to nothing and be noisy again, and then you'd just have a noisy DIRTY fan. So either its time for a new video card, or just live with a loud computer like me.

try a can of air, and look around for a non-fluid graphite spray that you can use on the bearing of the fan if you are confident in what you are doing and that you won't break anything.

A lot of the time, it's probably better to just upgrade the card and check reviews for the new one. People will tend to mention loud or worthless fan setups on the card if they spent their time buying it and were unhappy with the performance.

One other option would be adding some casefans in an attempt to bring the overall temp down a bit..
