Cow Brightskins!

I've just finished creating a .pak file of cow brightskins. I tried to keep the original cow shading as much as possible, but on some cow skins, it was not really possible. On those skins, I just turned everything to a flat red color.

The .pak file included (brightcows.pak) contains the brightskins. Place it in your baseq2 directory, rename it to something like pak8.pak, and enjoy seeing all those cows in a brand new "light"!

heh I was lookin at making some custom skins so I could locate the cow skin users, some time last week, but I didn't get around to it. As it is, they show as grunts to me.

I was going to rename the male player model as "cow" and skin it in solid dayglow yellow with the word "camper" in red, written across their back. I might still...

ROFL that would be funny! I just got annoyed by the way I would see groups of players camping together (I did not have the cow model/skins so they looked like grunts). I eventually got the cow skins and did a bit of skinning to color them nice bright yellow and/or red. Tonight I was planning on donning a cow skin and entering vanilla or xrazy, and then I was going to infiltrate the cows and blow them up with nades! They wouldn't be able to tell which of us it was until I shot....

What I did was copy the female model into the cow folder... and leave the cow skins alone... so that the cow skin shows up, but on the female model.

Looks pretty reasonable, and eliminates that annoying aspect of the cow model where color shell (quad damage, invuln, shield) don't show up properly.  (The ears glow slightly, very hard to see.)

Can't you infiltrate them anyway by just donning the regular cow skin?  As far as I know, if you downloaded skins, it would download the cow skin.  That was how I got mine.

Yes. That's the plan. He is also skinning them so it looks brighter to him. To them, he shows up as a regular cow.

Probably the first week I ever played on TS I found that the CRU were camping with the cow skin and another model, possibly grey. So I made a bind to switch between male, cow, and the third model with the touch of a button. That way I could kill one as a grunt, wait a minute, and come back as the cow, sneak up on the other and kill it. Then switch models to the third model so that when the cow came back I could sneak up on him as well.


It worked pretty good at first.. until I pressed the bind too soon and got kicked from the server for changing skins too fast 


I believe that the cow crowd have adapted a reasonably effective strategy to counteract this kind of thing now. After 2 frags they can identify that there is an infiltrator and then move camping spots. That keeps the infiltrator from getting enough kills to make a difference and minimalizes the effect the infiltrator has on the score. They also have been known to hide 1 or 2 cows out of sight when an infiltrator is identified. So that when he comes back and takes a pot shot at the exposed cow, the hiding cow gets him in the back.

I don't think that these plans are actually organized, they just tend to happen. I know that one of the cow users does have an "infiltrator cow!" bind in case this happens, but I doubt that they ever plan any of this ahead of time.

Great strategy and counter strategy. At least though, you'd always would have a chance at the beginning of the map to trick them before they choose a spot.

Even if you can't trick them anymore, the fact a cow is a killing another will still annoy them. :>
