DDAY, Gloom, even ET:QW are constructs of a long standing attempt to merge RTS elements into FPS games. I saw this one as an ad somewhere and had to at least check out some gameplay footage. I think it looks pretty cool!!

I haven't played this genre much. The best FPS + RTS I've played was Natural Selection for Half-life. It had a cool setting (marines vs aliens), and it works a bit like the commander in Battlefield 2. You have a commander (marines only) who plays the game as an RTS, while everyone else plays the game as a FPS. It had a good balance to it. If you don't have a good commander, you will lose mostly likely the game. Same if you have a good commander but a crappy team.
