i was wondering if there is a permanant way to ignore someone without having to type it in everytime they disconnect and reconnect just to piss you off or change names so they can avoid it that way too?

just ignore them the old fashion way....if you're playing and fragging it up the text shouldn't really even catch your eye...if you just don't respond to it eventually they get the point and move on as you become a target they get no fun out of.

add the ignore command to the autoexec.cfg in the game directory under quake2, for for dm C:\Program Files\quake2\baseq2\autoexec.cfg or equivalent.

I haven't tested the theory, but I'm not sure it would stick doing it that way. I've never used a file named autoexec.cfg, I've always used the "config.cfg", which people advise against doing, but I'm a rugged individualist boldly going where no man has gone before. When I try adding something like "/ignore AnnoyingPlayer" to my config.cfg, it disappears on the next connect even if I change the file attributes to read only.

I'll say it again. Edit the autoexec.cfg, never the config.cfg.

Put an empty autoexec.cfg, in every mod folder you use. Don't worry about all this write-protect stuff. Make any must-have changes in the autoexec.cfg.

They both get loaded when Q2 starts, config.cfg first, autoexec.cfg second, this allows autoexec.cfg to override the config.cfg.

When Q2 exits, it re-writes config.cfg preserving your changes there. If autoexec.cfg never touches the changed settings it will remember that state.
