I never really listened to Otis back in the 60's. He was always showing up at music festivals too, where the audience was really there for the rock n' roll. So he was kind of politely listenend to, and then Hendrix would come on, and people would go nuts. When I re-listen to these guys now, I can see (or hear) the greatness in their voice, the phrasing, the lack of bullshit octave pyrotechnics....just a straight forward delivery that fits the song. I've re-discovered Sinatra that way and you wouldn't have caught me dead owning an album of his, back in the day. I guess when you're young you are impressed with the obvious and what's current and don't give a fair listen to anything older. I was certainly like that back in my teens.

Not me, today's music sucks ass. If you want to hear something besides a cheesy love song or some stupid punk band with a whiny high-pitched vocalist you have to listen to radio stations that play the classics. Now there are exceptions, but they're to few to make a solid impact on mainstream music, and with the awful show American Idol being popular and all the aforementioned crappy music is just retaining too much popularity.

You miss the point. Different people like different shit. One man's trash is another man's treasure. Your treasure is my trash. I don't personally give a damn what the opinion of any institution like the Rock And Roll Hall of Fame has to say about "good" music. If you chose to measure your own tastes by their standards,... good for you.
