r1q2 needs a cd

Within about 20 seconds of connecting to any server,  I get a window asking for me to insert a cd.

r1q2.exe - No Disk      Sometimes says no disk, sometimes says wrong volume and ask's for shrek3 cd my kids play

Will not go away,  cancel it and it comes right back.  Doesn't do it if I play locally
Came up even when I tried to connect to jump,  while the map was still downloading.

after that,  still connected to jump,  I pulled up edge on my side and canceled the no disk window.
and it stayed gone.    Reconnecting to jump again brought it back.

Didn't do it with regular q2.exe


My only recourse at the moment is to put it as far off to the side as I can,
Still leaves a small portion of it,  and just kinda bugs me when playing.

Maybe try reinstalling the 3.20 patch and reinstalling r1q2.

actually,  I took this time to install worldcraft 1.6a

I can only guess the original problem but I know that you get a similar message playing 3.14 without the CD. One of the patches along the way was a no-cd patch. 3.17 maybe?

Another possibility is that r1q2 was trying to play a specific cd track and the command got saved to config.cfg or some other similar config file. Having no CD in while it tried to play a track could have been an unhanded exception either in r1q2 or on the original source that was never caught by r1ch.

I could also foresee it being a major Windows Media player LAWL running in the background continually trying to access the CD-ROM and conflicting with quake 2 (which probably checks if there is a CD in to try and play the tracks associated with each map).
