Record demo or take screen shot help
« on: March 30, 2010, 06:59:27 PM »
I was wondering, when I try to take a screen shot and paste into paint, all I get is a grey screen as the pasted object. Is there something I need to do special? Also, How do I record a demo of me playing to show how the game looks to show to others?

Not sure what could cause the gray image, something to do with the graphics drivers maybe.

The command for demo is "record <demoname>", the demo file will be put into moddir/demos/ folder.

To play the demo use "demomap <demoname>"

Just to clarify... are you trying to use alt-PrtScn to take the screenshot?  Or are you using the in-game 'screenshot' command?

(BTW... a Q2 demo won't show what your game looks like to others, in terms of graphics... it will just show the movement of the players and entities and such.)

OK, yeah, you can bind a key to "screenshot" and just hit that key whenever you want to take a screenshot in game.

I've heard there are some Q2 clients that can record to video, but I don't know much about that.

I have the same problem. I just disable fullscreen (vid_fullscreen 0) and it won't show the grey screen anymore. The screenshot will show up smaller though. If you don't want that you can always use the screenshot command.

To record demos you enter the following in your console: "record <demoname>". You can playback your demo with "map demos/<demoname>".
If you want to show a video of how your game looks like you could try a screen capture program like Fraps or Gamecam. Just make sure you have enough space on your computer, because Fraps eats your memory (last time it took like 48 GB for a Q2 vid of 23 minutes IIRC).

Good luck.

xfire in-game video capture works a bit better than most, and it's fully featured and free.

you just bind a key to start and stop it and run it while you are playing a demo back.
