free ftp space?? does such a thing exist

iv been pullin my hair out trying to find some ftp space to host files
but for the amount i need. id have to pay hundreds :p
i was hoping to get atleast 1gb-5gb

anyone know if such a host exists? for free?

If you don't mind leaving your computer on all the time (console has to!) then just set up your own server, it's very easy, just find yourself a freeware FTP server program (zFTP and FileZilla are both great and freeware although i find zFTP to be easier to use). Then when you have set up the server (whichever one you wanna use), find your IP (www.whatismyipaddress.com works well but be careful, it has loads of pop-ups). In your address bar type:  ftp://your-ip:your-port-number replacing those bits with the numbers... you should be able to then download files from yourself . With zFTP (I don't know about FileZilla) you can set up user names and passwords, ban certain IPs from connecting to you, etc. As long as you are connected to the internet, anyone anywhere should then be able to connect to your FTP server and download files right from your computer. But if you have a lot of people downloading at once, you'll need a fast connection otherwise the download rates will be rediculously slow.

i was thinking of doing that
iv have almost enough parts to put together a server pc
for that kind of stuff

ill probably run a quake2 server and a small ftp server
