Jailbreak - What is it?

Jailbreak is a team-based modification for Quake 2. There are two teams, red and blue, with two bases, each equipped with a jail, and a team-specific armory. When you kill a member of the opposite team, they respawn in your team's jail. You can get out of jail either by cooperating with other prisoners to escape, or by having a team member yet to be jailed hit a button next to the jail which will free all the prisoners.

The object of the game is to imprison the entire other team, triggering an execution, giving your team a point, and restarting the round.

Why do I want to play Quake 2 Jailbreak?

Excellent question, you! The unique objectives and structure of the game makes for an equally unique experience, with tactics all its own. In the beginning of a large game it very much resembles a team deathmatch, but halfway through a round when both teams have prisoners, you have to start thinking about how you want to play. Do you want to stick near your base to try to prevent a jailbreak, or do you go on the offensive and seek out the remaining enemies to secure an execution?

What if you're the last person on your team? Do you play it safe, hoping your imprisoned teammates can escape on their own, or do you risk it all to rush into the enemy base to try to free your captured comrades?

Q2 Jailbreak takes team-based first person shooters to a whole new level. If you haven't tried it, you should.

Cool. Yeah, we've been wanting to do it weekly, but it's been working out every other week anyway. Whenever we do it, I'll be sure to make a post here to inform.

Heh, the guy who was giving you crap about your weapons cache comments apologized after you left. That said, the "armory" is an important part of jailbreak. Some maps have them, some don't, but the ones who do serve a specific purpose.

But yeah, most of those maps were made 7 years ago
